Two on fox, first canceled after two seasons, second after one. Last one was on NBC, canceled after four episodes despite positive critical response.

:guffaw:Leno takes it on the chin: http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2010/01/14/jay-leno-takes-it-on-the-chin-from-jimmy-kimmel/

immy Kimmel, all is forgiven. You are forgiven for not usually being very funny, for often being crass, and for sometimes dating a female comic, Sarah Silverman, who is way more artistically daring and hilarious than you have ever been–until now. All your comedy sins are pardoned because of your classic confrontation with Jay Leno on “The Jay Leno Show” tonight.

Kimmel, fresh off of an episode of his own program this week in which he dressed up as a faux Leno, appeared on “The Jay Leno Show’s” feloniously tedious “10@10″ segment, in which celebrities are asked ten softball questions and they reply with ten Wiffle Ball answers. But not tonight. Tonight was hardball with steel bats and steroids. For pretty much every question, Kimmel kept turning the subject back to Leno and the fact that, after handing “The Tonight Show” over to Conan O’Brien, he now seems poised to snatch it back again.

It was the comedy of discomfort. Everything was laid bare. Andy Kaufman, Lenny Bruce and maybe Johnny Carson too, were all smiling, wherever they were. But maybe none of them watch talk shows at 10 p.m. After all, hardly anyone does and that’s part of how this whole affair got started.

Assuming Conan is actually gone and Jay is put back in the chair of The Tonight Show, I really hope it all explodes in NBC's face once more.

Jay is the one responsible for this whole mess because of his low ratings. I don't think that he is now the solution. If anyone should leave the network, it's him.

My best to Conan. I'll watch whatever show he winds up hosting.

Jay's ratings were 2 million higher than Conan's at 11:35.

He's burned a lot of bridges in this whole late night war.

Definitely.

Jay will face a backlash that is for sure.

He should have just retired all together.

I've noticed that a lot of conan's guests are staying all the way till the end. He's ending every show with a full couch.

That's how the real talk shows do it!!!!
That's how it often ended up on Tonight during Carson's tenure. I love that Conan reinstated both that and the post-monologue chat between the host and the emcee. Conan and Andy aren't Johnny and Ed, but they're close. Certainly their banter has been more entertaining than that between Jay and Kevin Eubanks or Dave and Paul Shaffer.

Indeed. Also the quick banter with the performer after their set. He's really taking ownership of the show... just before they kick him out and it goes back to leno.

I hope he makes the jump to fox and has full control of his new show.

Jay's ratings were 2 million higher than Conan's at 11:35.

Jay also had the benefit of better lead-in audiences. These were the shows during the last year of Jay Leno's tenure on the Tonight Show that he had to lead-in. (Jay had a 5mil or so average in viewers his last season)

Mondays: My Own Worst Enemy(4.79m viewers), Medium(8.5m viewers)
Tuesdays: L&O: SVU(10.3m viewers)
Wednesdays: L&O (8.23m viewers)
Thursday: Southland(7.44m viewers), ER(10.3m viewers)
Friday: Dateline(don't have numbers)

Leno's average audience at 10PM is 5.3m viewers

The only thing NBC regularly aired at 10PM last year that drew worse ratings than the Jay Leno Show was My Own Worst Enemy, which was cancelled after 7 episodes.

Mondays: Medium delivered 3.2mil more viewers to the 11pm news
Tuesdays: L&O: SVU delivered 5mil more viewers to the 11pm news
Wednesday: L&O delievered 2.97mil more viewers to the 11pm news
Thursdays: Southland delievered 2.14mil more viewers(6 episodes i think) and ER delivered 5mil more viewers to the 11pm news.

Do you get the idea of just how drastically NBC giving up 10PM and putting Jay Leno on has sabotaged the rest of the night that follows?

Makes you wonder what Conan could do with an American Idol lead in of 30 million viewers...

Dig, hell, Kimmel is gouging at Jay!
Did you hear that last line by Jimmy?! "Jay all you do is maintain cars, we have important things like families. You have $800 million, leave our shows alone!"

Well I know SOMEONE who won't be getting a Christmas card from Jay. I thought it the session was pretty uneventful up to the very end when Kimmel practically blew up at him.
