Re: names for three ship classifications

Good lord. Now I understand all the cracks I've been reading about Dervish. Ridiculous ship class name.

I can't say much as the NDA still has not been lifted. But I think you'll find that Cryptic has done their utmost to remain true to the original IP.

I think it's ironic that a Star Trek MMo does not have a login "que". Server is full? tough, try logging in later.

6.6gb Client and in there wisdom no official mirror set up by Cryptic just from other sites that you need to be a paying member to access and some that aren't even in fucking english :wtf:

Cryptic can have servers to play the MMO on but not to host a D/L client for there open beta ??? the ST-O forums have a large and unhappy thread about this issue. Seriously are Cryptics amateurs or is this an early April fools joke.

ps - Oh its ok they have set up an official torrent :rolleyes::rolleyes:

For the first day of open beta, my first day playing the game, and given it was just the tutorial...

    AWESOME!

The background graphics while flying around are amazing. It was fun and pretty easy through the tutorial. I probably played 2 hours and then crashed out. They've had a lot of server strain problems and a lot of crashes or people that cant login.

It looks good so far, but again, I've seen 2 hours worth.

Meh, you can't roam around anywhere except on the space station. Not even on your ship. The missions are very fps -ish. I wanted to explore, not be forced to do missions ot see things. I'll play for the free beta to see if it gets better, but so far it's typical Cryptic.

Aeolusdallas - you need to reduce that image size. It's too big and against board policy.

No offense is actually meant but that is a really silly thing to say about an MMORPG. Exactly how are you going to write and code these missions? How will you make them interesting?
All during closed beta Cryptic got nothing but complaints about all the non combat missions they put int he game. People complaining about having to talk to NPC's and having to run around scanning things and so on.

You are asking for FAR to much if you expect a MMORPG that by it's very nature has to avoid as much scripting as possible to have a lot of involving non combat interaction. The very genre pretty much demands fighting, leveling up, moving to higher level areas and repeating with different and harder enemies.
As for walking around on your ship. They had not planned to add that at all. They changed their minds about a month ago and began adding that feature. They flat out said that it would only be the bridge at first and that the bridge would not have much if any functionality at launch.

I dont think its asking too much for a game to be true to the source material.

STO can be fun, when its working properly but the game seems to be just Star Trek Legacy 2.5 Online

Theres no doubt that ST-O seems to be action oritainted but I hope theres exploration for the rest of us. The best games can cater to everyone (Perpetual the original makers had inside ship and exploration at heart of game not action).

What is? That I can't explore? Do you play any MMO's? Have you never just spent time exploring Azeroth? Middleearth? Tatooine? And yea, I commented that it is FPS-ish, unlike most MMO's. (except the dying SW:G). I am perfectly fine with having to kill things, never said I didn't. What I did say was that it would be nice to visit places without requiring a mission? Is everything in the game a mission map? Hell, most MMOs allow you to roam around areas. You might get killed from high level npc's but you can at least see an area.

I have no problem with scripting. Hell, I like a good story line. But too a point, I should be able to beam down to a major planet and at least look around a common area.

And only 2 character slots? WTF?

In some ways I agree with you, but in other ways I think that's too harsh especially considering the current state the game is in: large chunks of the map are currently marked inaccessible. This is not because of normal progression but because they're trying to focus testing. As an example, I was only in closed beta for last week and before it ended I did exactly that... I flew out to both K7 and DS9 for no reason but to look at them. You are perfectly capable of venturing out into space where there are high level mobs.

I think there should be more of that in the game for sure, but to dismiss it as having no ability to explore is sort of missing the current point of the beta test.

Well looks like am not getting game I can't even test out the trial, no where downloads it quicker than 50k/b per sec at best. Cryptic didn't think to put it on an offical mirror to max out your internet speed like oh every other fucking major MMO ever created.

Thats what I meant, just seems weird Cryptic had done a piss poor job of getting this out to the public.

Well, I've been downloading for 2 days now. I'm at 57%. And now download speed has plummeted to about 1.5 K/s.

It's dis-heartening to say the least. If I can't download the game, I really can't give them any feedback on it, now can I? :(
