I hope the opening scene for STXII is...

I'm hoping for a large musical production number.
With tap dancing, right?

A little something about the history of Star Fleet / the Federation, I still don't buy that this is the prime timelime and that all the changes were during the two decades since Nero came through.

A friend of mine just read the above, she said that the Federation isn't once mentioned during the movie, still don't have the DVD, is she right?

.

I hope the opening scene has lots of lens flare.

Come on, somebody had to say it.

a star field:
then:
ding... ding.... ding... ding...
dah dut dah dut dut dit-dit dahhhh!
then:
whoooooshh! as the Enterprise zips by.

more music and credits.

I'll be happy with that.

AYEL: Look at the ship. Are you familiar with this craft?
ROBAU: Who is your commander? Is that him?
AYEL: I will speak for captain Nero.
ROBAU: Then ask captain Nero: What gives him the right to attack a Federation vessel?

--------------------------------------
PIKE: I am Captain Christopher Pike. To whom am I speaking?
NERO: Hi, Christopher. I am Nero.
PIKE: You've declared war against the Federation. Withdraw and I'll agree to arrange a conference with Romulan leadership at a neutral location.
NERO: I do not speak for the Empire. We stand apart.
The Federation is also mentioned in a number of other scenes, including Pike's talk with Kirk in the Iowa bar and Nero's interrogation of Pike.

I'm hoping for a large musical production number.

Definitely. Like the kind that starts with ordinary dialogue and then people break into song. I can see Kirk rising dramatically out of The Chair to join the chorus line of Redshirts... complete with high kicks . So cute!

It will open with a scene where Sulu is supposed to be promoted to captain, but Kirk really isn't into it so it doesn't happen.

Elderly Kirk, played by Shatner in front of a classroom.

Kirk: "And so, after I defeated the Romulans and their mighty Octopus, Starfleet promoted me to Captain and gave me command of the Enterprise."
Student: "Tell us the real story of your first mission."
Kirk: "Okay. And so the story begins..."

"On the Kelvin NCC-0514..."

For me it would be: Some crewperson whining that the ship's too big and that the engine room looks like a brewery. Scotty turns to the camera and says "IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER! STOP CRYING OR GET THE FUCK OFF MY SHIP!"

Call me mundane, but I'd like to see the crew drinking coffee on the bridge. God, I miss that. It felt so real...

Just like a good book it will need a hook. Something to make you almost jump out of your seat. The question is then what hook hasn't been used yet?

Klingon Ships are attacked by VGer (ST-TMP)
Kobayashi Maru (ST-TWOK)
Cargo Vessel is attacked by Kruge (ST-TSFS)
Earths atmosphere is ionized by the probe (ST-TVH)
Kirk nearly dies climbing El-Capitan (ST-WNMHGB)
Praxis is destroyed in (ST-TUC)

We'll leave the TNG movies out of the equation as they are in their own time.

I would kind of like to see something from "The Balance of Terror" The destruction of earth outposts along the neutral zone by an unknown force. Spock playing Tri-Level chess to start off with as that could be used as a metaphor for what is to come. Even though we have scene what Romulans look like. The attack may not be Romulan in nature this time but because it is along the neutral zone the attack could be perceived to be Romulan and if the Romulan outposts are similarly attacked mutual suspicion could lead to stand off. Until the actual culprit is found? Remember as Nero said "We stand apart" So he is not acting on behalf of the empire although Romulus is still there in this time frame and still an enemy of the Federation. Perhaps Sam 'Kirks' brother could be stationed on one the outposts not Deniva in this new timeline.

They have messed with the timeline to a degree (well a lot) though so the TOS events can't really be a reference point. It's kind of like they took the movies (TOS actor series) and TOS itself put that into a blender and hit puree.

I wonder if Quinto is good at Chess??

The destruction (by unknown attacker) of outposts on both Federation and Romulan sides of the border strikes me as being quite similar to a story premise used in TNG's Season 1-ending "The Neutral Zone".

Reports from the set had Yelchin being the chess ace of the cast.

Sorry, you're all missing the point.

The next movie starts with Robau dying.

EVERY new Star Trek movie starts with Robau dying.

And someone in the background screams "They Killed Kenny Robau! Those Bastards!"

I'm hoping for a large musical production number.

It's just waiting to be done.
The pitch: J.J. Abrams' brings high energy and maximum lens flair to this big screen adaptation of the October 1976 Mad magazine musical Star Trek: Keep on Trekkin'.

http://mystartrekscrapbook.blogspot.com/2008/11/1976-mad-star-trek-spoof.html

(When you get to the site and scroll down to the actual story from the issue, so no one ruins their eyes trying to read it, if you click on the story pages, they enlarge to fill the screen.)

The Enterprise is destroyed and everyone onboard is killed in the first five minutes, forcing Admiral Pike to come out of retirement and put together a new team -- starring Colin Farrell as Finnegan, Christian Bale as Mitchell, Matt Damon as Sam Kirk and William Shatner as Grandpa Tiberius.

"Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's and your brother's. Your brother saved the entire galaxy before he was even a captain. I dare you to do better."

I can see a fan film of this coming out. They go back in time and rescue Robau just before he is killed...

I'd like the opening scene to be Janice Rand getting a shock when she goes in to collect some stuff from Kirk's quarters and asking Kirk, "Do you want hot coffee with that?" as she puts the cup on ground (bending from the waist, obviously) and reaches for her hand phaser.
