Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and why

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

Regarding Stu Phillips's BSG vs. Williams' AOTC: Inspired by? Of course. To this extent? You decide:

Sample 1
Sample 2

One of those is from the original BSG score, the other from the AOTC score.

Like I said, I've no way of knowing whether it's coincidence, deliberate, or JW's way of giving a nod to Phillips. Out of the entire catalogue of Williams' work, we're talking less than a minute here. Still, I think it's a fascinating comparison.

I liked them all (Episode I was a bit lacking though).

Anyway, The Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith are my two favorites.

ESB and ROTS. They are my favorites because of how dark they are.

I like TPM and AOTC but they both are very flawed. Jar Jar felt out of place in the first movie and the Anakin/Padme romance took too much time to tell in the second movie.

ESB and RotS are my two favorites, I guess, but I do have a soft spot for TPM as it was the first new Star Wars film I saw in the theater. I was 9 years old and I can still remember it.

My favorite is the original, Star Wars as I still call it. It was the world-changing movie of my childhood, which counts for a lot. But when I grew up I began to appreciate how great it is in a film-buff way. Some say that it "borrows" from a lot of great old movies and styles, but it's all in a novel and expressive way that I find anything but derivative. The combination of semi-documentary style camera work, groundbreaking sound design and VFX, innovative "lived-in" art design and a wonderful classic-cinema-era score make it a brilliant piece of cinematic storytelling.

ESB is a very good movie, building nicely on what came before. RotJ is not as good but has its moments. The other three don't do anything for me.

Oh, and HAN SHOT FIRST!

Color me disappointed in your memory, but I seem to recall that Han shot once, and Greedo didn't shoot at all.

My favs are Star Wars and Empire.

The fact that Greedo didn't get to shoot his weapon doesn't change the fact that Han shot his first. ;)

You know, Lucas changed it so Han wouldn't seem like a murderer, but the idea of Luke, Han and Chewie killing random Death Star personnel was okay.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

Empire strikes back was good but too much Empire striking back lol

Return of the Jedi maybe my fave but is also the one of the original 3 I've watched the least.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

Return of the Jedi for me. Those Ewoks were da BOMB! :guffaw:

Ian McDiarmid is a terrific actor. It's too bad he didn't get much more to do in the first two Prequel movies. They made the smart move by having him reprise his role as Palpatine. Now that ROTS has been released, all the scenes with The Emperor make much more of an impact in ROTJ.

^^^^^^^^
For certain definitions of impact, perhaps. Personally, I prefer the slow reveal of the Emperor throughout the OT. Build up matters, and I can only imagine someone watching in the 1-6 order would lose that. Of course, they also lose the Death Star reveal, the paternity reveal, the Yoda reveal, and the sister reveal; pretty much everything of any impact is undercut by watching the prequels first. But some people prefer callbacks to build ups and reveals, I guess.

My two favorites are Empire and A New Hope. Jedi is very nearly tied with A New Hope. Two thirds of the Battle of Endor are as compelling as ever, but as I grow older I find my patience with the Ewoks wearing thin.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

A New Hope and Empire, with Revenge of the Sith pretty close.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

I like all the Star Wars films but probably Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope is my most favourite what do you think of the films

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

Return of the Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for the battle over the Death Star II and Darth Vader's redemption against John William's beautiful choral music. I can't stand the prequels, which get progressively worse.

That is like probably my favourite moment in the entire trilogy.

Well, specifically the bit where Luke lashes out and the chorals hum. Beautiful, just operatically poignant. It is the thunderous final act that the trilogy deserved.

Really I've always loved the whole Death Star confrontation, which I'm sure might make me a pariah to some. It's the, ah, other aspects which drag Jedi down a tad. (Damn it George! You should have used Wookiees! I DON'T CARE IF CHEWBACCA WAS A MECHANIC ON THE MILLENIUM FALCON HE COULD BE AN EXCEPTION! Sheesh...)

I might go watch that now anyway, I've been slowly rewatching the trilogy for the first time in five years (I had honestly forgotten how good Empire was. This is what Star Wars meant once? There were subtle nuances I picked up about the Vader/Luke dualism that were in no way helped by those damned prequels, sheesh. All the warnings Yoda gives about impetuousness, Luke's casual disregard for them, his image behind Vader's mask is just metaphorically what the literal revelation at the end of the film is about - yak yak yak).

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

1. Empire. Why? Because it's fucking Empire.
2. ANH. Why? For "starting" the series, and there's some good action pieces in it, some great character stuff and it's just all around a good, fun, movie.

This.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

1) Revenge of the Sith - people need to get over the prequel hate, this one was a classic despite the other two being... well..... shite.

2) Empire Strikes Back - Obvious

For posterity

3) A New Hope

4/5) Tie between Return of the Jedi and Attack of the Clones

6) "Now this is podracing!"
