Modern Warfare2 General Thread

Don't take this personal Skywalker, but God I hate snipers. Actually worse than the noob tubers. It's just that a lot of these maps aren't quite as open and conducive to sniping as previous COD's, so it hasn't seemed that bad this time around.

I guess it's about what you enjoy in the game. I like slugging it out, toe-to-toe "in the trenches" and I just hate being sniped from half way across the map by some unseen enemy. Yes it's part of war, and yes it's a legitimate part of the game, but it just seems to detract from the fun of slugging it out.

But that's just me. I know a lot of people enjoy the challenge of finding a good hiding spot and hitting those hard shots. And I guess some people probably enjoy "sniper hunting."

I've often thought, I wish I could have one at least one map in the rotation, no explosives, no scoped weapons, no air support, just guys slugging it out against each other with rifles, shotguns, and pistols. I'm not asking to change the whole game, just give me one map or gametype. I think it would be a blast! :)

Yeah, I know people hate snipers, but I find it to be a lot of fun. I've just always liked sniping. My favorite levels in COD4 were "All Ghillied Up" and "One Shot, One Kill."

Also, I get myself killed way too much when I just run-and-gun. :p

to be honest, when I break out my sniper class, it's on Highrise, Afghan, and Overpass, I'm doing it as a counter sniper, cross-fire on the other hand, i keep the middle clear on the turret side, and i'm almost untouchable on the second floor of the parking lot side

I tried the multiplayer on this game for the first time the other day, and it completely reminded me of why I don't play multiplayer games. The first match had some kid who kept shouting "BETRAYYYYYYED" into his mic, another who kept calling everyone "fag" when he got killed. The second match had someone who kept breathing heavily into his microphone the ENTIRE time.

By the time a finally found a match not overpopulated by douches, I started having some fun. But it just wasn't worth it for me.

I do love the campaign, and the spec-ops missions. But multiplayer just isn't for me.

tried multiplayer for the first time this morning and I have to admit I liked it more than I thought I would BUT it still has annoyances and the annoying feeling that I know the audience they cater too is the age bracket that is not even supposed to be playing the dam thing.

* Still getting use to a controller as my mouse never had feedback that made me miss...SMG hardest to control, ok with assualt rifles.

* I have got to UNLOCK matchmodes WTF. I can understand ranking system for perks/weps even though it screws causal gamers but to have to unlock game modes especially annoying as I prefer Hardcore over softcore.

* on my screen I go round a corner to avoid fire but die because killcam shows I died before moving round the corner...how can killcam and my own screen contridict each other ?

But most of the maps are fun the Scar is great and double shotgun is a laugh, I picked it up and had some fun with it. I would like see IW add if your being shot then you can't pull out your knife...the amount of times I died while shooting them they stab me...erm bullets

Level 9 close to 10 so will carry on playing for now :p

Well I do too, but I guess when I'm "in the trenches" I feel like i have a chance. When I get sniped from half a map away, then I have no chance other than to stay under cover the whole game and that just bores me to death. I don't know how campers do it.

Mute is your friend. Seriously, I pretty much have to mute all my teammates every match for this very reason. NOBODY uses the mic for tactical reason anymore. It's probably not as bad on PS3 as it is on the 360 since not everyone has mics.

The sniper rifles are the hardest weapon in the game to use effectively and most people do not have the chops for it. In your average 6v6 deathmatch game every enemy running a sniper class adds another 5-10 percent to my team's chances of winning in my opinion. There are several reasons for this.

1) Assault rifles can make most of the shots that sniper rifles can. If a sniper misses with his first shot he is usually at a disadvantage to anyone with an AR.

2) If you get killed by a sniper you watch your killcam that tells you exactly where the sniper is and how he is set up, claymores/tactical insertion, stopping power whatever. Unless the sniper displaces to another location it is ridiculously easy to come kill him.

3) Snipers, cannot rack up kill streaks as fast as other people, and if playing as your typical camper sniper do not support their teammates in any meaningful way in the main gun fights going on, essentially taking away another gun that could be involved there. Take a look at those people playing true snipers(I don't mean the snipers running around with double shotties) and you'll see that their kill/death ratio at round's end might be plus, but it'll be a low number of kills at best. When I run pure sniper, I generally only go perhaps 8-10 kills and 3-5 deaths.

All of this goes out the window when you play with a team though. I play with my brother and four of our friends quite often and everything changes at that point. We typically run with 3 ARs, 1 SMG rusher, and 2 snipers although that varies on the map and gametype. My max winstreak with that team is 48 games so far. One sniper generally locks down a certain lane, while the other sniper runs close support and sniper suppression for the ARs as they flush the enemy team toward the locked down lane.

I know exactly what you mean, this has been an issue since MW1. I'm told it's lag and I'm not smart enough to dispute. I just know it's damned annoying as I've discovered that if you're getting hammered pretty hard, getting to cover is pretty much useless.

I'll admit that I've been spamming the noob tube a lot the last couple of days, but that was mainly to complete the Challenge for it. Not that I'm all that interested in the shotgun attachment.

I do kick ass with the grenade launcher, though. I either have a lot of luck or just really good aim when I use it.

Well just so I'm not misunderstood, it's not that I never use it, and I don't mind it when it's used for a specific tatical reason (such as taking out a well placed camper). And I'll break it out against riot shielders.

But to me, when someone is just running around using it as their ONLY weapon, then it gets annoying. BUT as I said before, it's there, it's a legitimate part of the game. I'm not calling it cheap or anything like that. Just annoying.

I have "noobtuber" as my sig so no one gets surprised in-game. I carry it on all of my guns and use it like a surgical weapon-precise placement in unbelievable spots. Anyone can use it-but to get a positive score with it all of the time isn't easy. I usually play HC TDM so the blast radius thing isn't an issue. The toughest part is restraining from wailing with it right away. Conserving the shots for the right time is the make-or-breaker. In Core I don't even bother firing it. Head shots with the ACR or Tar 21 are more reliable and faster.

You can shoot through certain corners in the campaign... can the same thing be done in the MP?

I'm pretty sure he means that he sprints past a corner, thinks he's made it, then he dies... and when he watches the killcam, from the perspective of his murderer he is shot before he reaches the corner.

In the good old days you'd log into a dedicated server, and you had to lead your targets by however much lag you had. Nowadays apparently they've decided that people can perceive lack of lag when shooting others, at the cost of people feeling the lag on the end where they get shot... at least that's my theory, and I'll stick to it.

Yeah, what Yoda said. It's about the perception of the shooter and shootee.

Speaking of lag, I've got a question for anyone who can answer. Yesterday I was playing TDM in terminal when my screen started going haywire with my character moving back and forth and getting stuck and so on. So I'm like, okay somebody is lagging out. This went on for awhile and finally I said the hell with it and decided to go to a new lobby. When I left the lobby, it immediately when to the "migrating hosts" screen, so I presume I was the host of the match I was leaving.

So if I'm the host, why is my character on my screen which should be controlled by my own PS3 going all haywire? I would understand that people around me might be lagging and going haywire, but this was my own guy.

One possibility is that someone else could have been host and the game decided to switch hosts while you were quitting.

Another one today and this is despite having a good ping according to game...I shot this guy first but died and the killcam didn't even have me shooting . Despite that am enjoying it so far and keep getting positive K/D ratio so thats all I can ask for though would be nice if I got to play more maps, always seems to be same 4/5.

Scar H (think H) is a beast with Red dot.

You had the full four bars and had lag? I'm shocked I tell you... shocked... well ok, not really. I know the matchmaking can't be that grand when there are a few hundred thousand playing and there are Australians with 'yellow' pings in the game. In fact, when the hell did ping become a god damned cell phone signal display? I miss good ol' milliseconds. Milliseconds actually mean something.

True, it could have just been a coincidence. Is there any way to know if you're the host?
You were definitely quitting right as the migration was happening. The host either quit, or just got lagged all to hell, which after a bit will trigger the migration. You'll know if you're the host because the part after 'Finding best host...' bit will be different... if you're the host it will immediately snap into the waiting for other players countdown, I think with a countdown of like 20 seconds... The important thing is that it's very sudden. If you're not host there'll be a couple of short wait prompts even if you have a solid ping to the new host... I forget the exact details, but if you pay attention to the host migration you'll probably notice. Also I think right after the host migrates if you press 'select' or 'back' to see the scores, if you're host you'll see yourself with perfect green bars and everyone else will be in the red range for a bit. In fact I think that's the best way to tell who's hosting, just watch that screen and if you see one person with full bars, and everyone else with less, then that person is host. It might act a bit different on PS3 though.

Agreed I prefer the old way it was a much more accurate way of telling you your ping. I can't really complain too much I mean I only play COD games for sp but like WAW I have enjoyed the online aspect probably because console gaming is less of a hassle than PC gaming.

Gah, what point is there in even having Capture The Flag if everyone just camps around the flag the whole damn time? I get my ass shot up every match because I'm almost always the only one on my team actively going after the enemy flag. :scream:

I've stopped using tactical inseration because ppl camp my thing, I wouldn't mind if I could choose to cancel a respawn ove the object after I laid it. Also last stand now with non pistol weps :wtf: a dude shot me with sniper when on floor despite the fact sitting down with 1 arm how could he pick up a sniper aim it and shoot it with the feedback ripping is arm off
