Origional Starship Design

dboy-2007

Ensign
Newbie
I’ve had a good search round the forum and there don’t seem to be anything else like this so I guess I’ll go ahead and post it. This thread is a place for people to post pictures and specs of there own star trek ships that they have created. They can be from any time in the trek universe and from any race as long as at least part of the design has something that you have input. We have one of these for stargate over on gate world and it is a huge success hopefully this will be the same.

So anyway here is my ship

(This is designed for an AU)

Class: Voyager

Ships of Class:
EC-01 Voyager (December 2109)
EC-02 Pegasus (February 2111)
EC-03 Atlantis (September 2111)

Size
130mL
25mW
23mH

Engines:

2x Warp Nacelles (Speed Warp 3.5)
1x Ion Sub light thrusters

Defences
Hull Plating (Only a few key parts of the ship)
2x Torpedo Launchers
1x Low Power Plasma Cannon (Only EC-02,03)

Info:

In 2105 Starfleet began to work on a warp engine capable of Breaking the warp 2 barrier. The vulcans for a while were reluctant to help but after a year the project was assigned a vulcan engineer. By 2107 It was looking like the engine was going to work so Starfleet began to build a warp ship for there new warp engines the Voyager. The ship was completed by 2108 but there was still a few things to be ironed out with the warp engine. A year later in December 2109 the ship and her engines were completed.

The ship was designed to be the first in a line of 3 exploration vessels designed to explore the systems around the Sol system. Which started with the launch of voyager in January 2010

Yeah, Fan Art is generally the best place for custom ship work. I'll warp it over there. :)

We post stuff all the time, check all the threads. I'm not sure we need a collective for this, it would get rather full. Probably best sticking to a thread per ship, and we critique each seperately.

Speaking of which, while I quite like your design the only thing I think that doesn't sit right with me is the nacelles. Why are they mounted Enterprise style, off axis? Your ship is symmetrical along the major axis, I'd have expected the best place for the nacelles would be top/bottom or left/right to give symmetrical thrust.

What's the rectangular section?

I like that there's nothing convoluted about it. It's simple and has a utilitarian grace to it. I'm not opposed to the off axis warp nacelles since they are un-officially supposed to have a line of site with each other. Depending on what camp you subscribe to...

The OSDT we have over at gateworld has worked very well, but I suppose if a thread per is the prefered way over here then I'll have to stick to that.

The method here makes it easier to follow a particular ship as it develops. It also avoids maxing out a single thread quickly.

It's a cultural difference. Star Trek is all about the ships, so each ship is treated like a star. Stargate, not so much.

Sojourner is correct, here it tends to be about the ships as much as anything. The front page of this section alone has nine ship design threads in it at this time. We would swiftly max out any single thread if it contained all our designs and their work in progress.

That one thread is 522 PAGES and it's been going for FOUR YEARS. It is a bad idea.

Trek ship threads are less about technical specs and more about the ship's personality - does it look "right" for a ship designed for this function in that era. SG ship designs, personally speaking, if they didn't have engine glows at the back, would be hard to tell what direction they should point. They look like Lego constructs built by five year olds. You can't look at one of them and instantly say "OK, here's the engines, here's the shuttle bay, here's the bridge, here's the weapons, here's the sensors."

SG ships are equipment. Trek ships are one of the characters. To that end, we would rather discuss them separately because each one requires a different train of thought to get it right.

As has been pointed out it does look rather large for the era. Perhaps if you rescaled it?

Aside from that it does look like an early vessel should.
