On the "and" thing, here's where I come from on it.

A)I was taught not to use an and, that was drilled into me in school.

Secondly, I would argue you don't say "22" by saying "Twenty and two."

So why would 101 be "one-hundred and one?"

Because you say the word hundred - so its "one hundred, and one" the comparable way of saying twenty-two would be "two tens and two".

Personally I don't care if you use the "and" or not, but that's my theory on why it's there. If they'd come up with a hundreds varient of the "ty"s for the tens numbers when they were inventing number names then everything would be simpler.

"One thousand, nine hundred and ninety" is a mouthful, "two thousand and ten" isn't really.

What the heck is your point?

We said Nineteen Ten and now we're saying Twenty Ten.

Why the heck should that be wrong? Because it's easy to say? That's why you don't do things...because they're easy?

"Four score and seven years ago..."

Wrong! You're not supposed to say it that way... This speech sucks... Try better next time, loser...

Twenty-ten...

...and in part due to the geeky reason that I've been used to dealing with Trek years as "twenty-three-seventy-five" and the like. ;)

Yeah, better than saying "three hundred" in there.

Besides, it's smoother signing twenty ten than spelling out 2-0-1-0. It was easier with 2 00 x. But not anymore :)

As Snaploud indicated, it used to be the custom to say "twenty and ten" or "ten and twenty;" though it's out of fashion currently, it's not wrong.
