Houston becomes the largest city to elect openly gay mayor?

No, it shows that scientific opinion changes and I want to protect myself and my family not only from HIV...

"Scientfic opinion"

We went over this so many times in the linked thread it's absurd. If you could catch HIV through casual contact it'd be a pandemic. Everyone would have it.

, but from H1N1 and other things as well. These days we can't even trust the vaccines.

Yeah, it'd be just terrible if your kids caught a flu and were sick for a few days.

It doesn't mean I hate homosexuals. I clearly do not.

There's monumental evidence to the contrary.

Hey, I'm trying to be reasonable here. To be honest, I generally limit anyone coming into my home from contact with my kids. I have a very young daughter, H1N1, etc. If you have kids you know whwere I'm coming from.

And in the age we're in I try to limit any physical contact with non-family members. And even then it's disinfection all the way.

So far, so good.

Be well, John Spartan!

Wow, your bubble kids are going to be allergic to everything and get sick all the time, what with those retarded immune systems. Better start sizing up the bubbles, to keep them "safe" from that big, scary world of other human beings.

His family must never go out the house. How do you know the checker or the bagger at the store are "Clean", there's no health check for grocery store employees; hell the butcher grinding the meat (no pun intended) hasn't coughed or sneezed into the meat?

Actually, I believe Trekker is or was a deli clerk, so maybe he can speak to your point.

Regardless, the grocery store is certainly laden with viruses. And should NOT employees that handle food be screened?

Sorry you feel that way, Trekker. Merry Christmas anyway.

I've worked in food service, deli-grocery store, produce, catering, would you like me to go on? And I'm telling ya', you're putting a lot of faith in your grocery store or restaurant cooks to think they are a 100% clean a 100% of the time or that they don't have diseases or illness that can be transmitted.

Agreed. I have been a Seafood/Meats clerk, and a meat cutter, and while I was very conscientious of germs (I'm OCD anyway), I can honestly say I was more cautious than most who worked with me.

Is it really that hard for people to be civil? Or are you just that eager to play into your opponents hands?

Calling opinions 'stupid' is now off limits?
Good to know.

It's a great way to perpetuate ignorance and stupidity under the veil of civility. :techman:
If you must resort to calling an opinion 'stupid' and can't manage to be civil, you should think about taking your act on the road to TNZ. Especially since you seem so invested in the lowbrow approach. In any case, it is not off limits, it is heading down the wrong road. I Posted a link in the pinned Thread about Mannerly Debate; you might want to check it out.

Gay gene, RJ?
Genetics, not "a gene."

After the last time I worked in a grocery store, I refused to buy meat from that store for over a year just cause I knew what went on "behind the scenes."

Ah, packing hate, bigotry and general disdain for a certain group of people in nice words is perfectly fine in MISC?
Good to know.
I'll stick with honest debate in TNZ then.

I am not a deli clerk.

I am, however, the Meat Market Manager in a grocery store.

There's no "health check" for my employees to pass to ensure they're not carrying diseases that cannot be transmitted through casual contact. The health department, sure, may take issue if one of my employess had TB or menegitis or any other scary contagious disease but they'll do that in any industry. As for coughing into the meat, sure, "it can happen" but if the health department finds out they, and my bosses, would be up my ass in a heartbeat.

It has been proven that then HIV virus can live on a dry surface at room temperature for 13 days...and you can have it for 7 years or longer an not even know it...so millions of us could be carrying it and not even know it..it is much easier to catch than you know.

I personally know quite a few gays who choose to be that way. One of my cousins as a matter of fact rebelled against his family's religious beliefs and chose to be gay just to tick them off. He died 2 years ago of Aids, so did his partner..

Oh, yes, I'm sure this is an accurate representation of the situation. Also, way to throw in the big be-gay-get-AIDS-bugaboo. What is this, 1985? :vulcan:

It doesn't matter..data doesn't change and neither does the virus..it doesn't matter if it is 2124, it is still the same.

It is proven that if you truly accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior, be truly born again, the tendency to be gay leaves, which makes the bible true, that old things are passed away...
I don't think you know what the word "proven" means.

Proven means (as if you didn't know) it has been done....duhhh.

Just how many people do you think are running round ejaculating on dry surfaces, anyway?

And I'm sure you have a reputable link to back that up with, right? Because everything I've ever read or seen says that HIV, and pretty much all viruses in general, can only "live" on a surface for a day at the longest.

it may have been done but for a many it people it dosnt work in the long term.

several big name ex gays have either turned away from the so called reversal process all together or been caught in rather odd circumstances.

oh some things about the aids virus..

HIV is not transmitted through casual, daily contact. Since HIV is not transmitted by saliva, it is impossible to get it through sharing a glass, a fork, a sandwich, or fruit.

Three studies of household contacts, in the U.S., Europe, and Africa, have shown that AIDS is not casually transmitted by normal activities, even when people are in close living arrangements. All the studies examined households where someone had AIDS to see if any of the other members in that household had become infected (sexual contact was excluded). Many of these households included a small child as the one who has AIDS. These children continued to play with siblings in the manner that children play: wrestling, fighting, spitting, sharing food and clothes, and many other activities. No other member of any of the households shows any sign of being infected. This study shows that AIDS is a difficult disease to get, and that even the intimate exposure common among small children living together is not sufficient to transmit the virus.

Air does not "kill" HIV, but exposure to air dries the fluid that contains the virus, and that will destroy or break up much of the virus very quickly. The CDC reports that drying HIV reduces viral amount by 90-99% within several hours.
http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/resources/qa/qa35.htm
that thing above about hiv surviving for several days happened in a lab in a highly controlled environment with controlled temps that dosnt exist in the real world.
plus it was a very high concentration that most probably wouldnt be found in the real world/

so the infection ability going away very fast is probably the more realistic.
and keep in mind what i quoted above.
it is pretty damn rare if not non existent for other members of a family to get aids even if caring for the infected person.

oh and yes and bully for houston for voting for the person they believe to be the best qualified.

a statement might not be stupid but there sure the heck have been a lot of ignorant statements made in misc over the years. (look up the definition)...
if one cant call out a statement for being ignorant then misc might just be lost.
