UFO (the show about SHADO) adaptation in the works...

It was mentioned on here, but it was quite a while ago.

Neal McDonough as Ed Straker! :)

I couldn't agree more! He'd be perfect. I'm really psyched for this project. I loved the show and I hope that they really can capture the essence of it.

I've watched every episode several times and I never picked up on this:
The space-suited figures that landed on Earth to steal our organs were themselves semi-zombified abductees from previous sorties, now controlled by alien intelligence.
Forbin, I love that picture, though probably a tough time to be a pretty young lady.
Think they will re-work the actresses (camel-toe) costume?

That's not quite right... the ones who came in the UFOs were aliens who had multiple organ transplants from previous human abductees. Some humans were controlled in a couple of episodes but that was not the main effort and they were taken over here.

Well, we'll have to wait and see about this; I'd rather see a sequel showing what's going on forty years later. And will they be willing to make it as colorful and sexy as the original in the current climate?

I seem to recall one of the later episodes where they discovered an Alien whose body was composed entirely of human organs. Only his mind was Alien.

Mind you, I might of imagined that!

On the other hand, the episode 'The Cat With Ten Lives' featured an Alien in control of a cat, so it seemed that they could transfer their consciousness into almost any vessel. One of the best things about UFO was that we knew so little about the enemy, making them mysterious and frightening.

T'Girl, thank you, thank you, thank you for posting that picture!

I declare myself to be cautiously optimistic! Except for Ali Larter. Really don't like her at all. For me she doesn't have any of the class and poise of Colonel Lake. But, as always, open mind and all that.

It takes a while to load, but there's an interesting version of the theme at the official site.

Whether or not this is actually used for the movie remains to be seen, it might just be for publicity purposes. If it is for the film, I can live with that. Needs more Hammond organ though.

There was at least one episode where Col. Lake wore a purple wig on Moonbase.

Actually, everybody apparently wore some form of wig on that show. The whole purple wig idea may look campy today, but it was actually a legitimate, seriously intended prediction of how fashions and other aspects of culture were possibly to be in 1980. Gerry and Sylvia Anderson believed that wigs would be a common piece of apparel for both men and women. As such virtually every male actor on the show was actually wearing a wig in most episodes, too. In the cast of Michael Billington (Foster), you can tell what episodes he didn't wear a wig in because he was going the Sean Connery route and it showed in several episodes. For Ed Bishop it was more a practical matter - they tried dying his hair for a few episodes but apparently it caused him some problems, so he wigged it for the rest of the series.

All that said, if you watch the first episode it was pretty clear Anderson was going for the eye candy effect with regards to Lt. Ellis and the others on Moonbase. Not to mention the long shot of Ayshea Brough's butt early in the episode (say that fast 5 times!).

Alex

So the wigs were a perk for the interceptor pilots and fighter command controlers for serving on the moon. I guess in nobody's wildest immagination would women do that to their own hair.

Reminds me of Dax's cover during the Bell riots of getting a tattoo during the fad in the 90s.

If UFO works I wonder if they'll give Thunderbirds another go and (keep the writers from the Frake's abominiation well away).

I gotta say, having seen Gabrielle naked in that film, that all my teen fantasies about how she must look were not disappointed. The woman was awesome.

I would hope to Whomever's Appropriate that it's actually used in the movie! Who did that version?
