Remembering John Spencer

I think that if you watch the clip of John Spencer's emmy win it says it all. He was up against three of his cast mates and they all were happy to see him win.

Wow, that's awesome. I love how Bradley Whitford jumps out of his seat in excitement as if he won. Such love and devotion for the man.

Yeah I was going to comment about that too. I absolutely loved that, that they were more happy that he won than anything else.

The West Wing had a superlative cast of actors and characters and each episode had more memorable scenes than full seasons of most shows. But my fave scenes were invariably between Bartlett and Leo - just the look they would give each other when the others left them alone.

And Leo had one of my favorite lines in the whole show, when he referred to breakfast as 'my favourite meal of the day to eat out.' One I like to quote when I'm fortunate enough to eat likewise!

Been rewatching from the start. What a great show. Damn shame about Spencer. I'd have loved to have seen McGarry as VP after the guys Bartlet had. Imagine what he could have done.

According to the IMDB trivia for The West Wing, the producers were leaning towards a Vinnick win but decided to change it to Santos as a tribute to John Spencer.

He would have only been 63?! Damn! He is like Patrick Stewart, he always looked old.

I have to give the writers of The West Wing credit, they handled his death very well and I think the last episode he filmed was the VP debate which is a nice note to end on.

This is my favorite line I have ever heard John Spencer speak (it's from WarGames):

"Screw the procedure. I want somebody on the goddam PHONE before I kill twenty million people!"

Also I remember him from a very early L&O episode (he played the father of a murder victim).

I always loved how they did that as well. How he was so wealthy but not "evil rich."

For me it was staying up late and watching eps of L.A. Law with mom and dad in the early 90s. I liked him even back them.
