I am investigating the world of Online Dating.

I guess I don't get the point of the people that bother to put up dating profiles, but are then "too busy" to actually do any dating. Why bother?

And if she's too busy to set aside time for you now, what makes you think that, even if things go well, she'll have time for you again after Xmas?

Those are the pretty easy warning signs to just not bother with some people, even if there's a pretty picture or funny profile.

If you're in school near X, but "home" is near Y, then do you put X or Y into your location search preferences? Either way, someone's going to have to deal with you not always being around.

She's probably got exams and papers right now, so one can't really extrapolate her current scheduling issues to the regular semester.

If someone is actually interested, they'll make the time, 'swamped' or not. That's been my experience, anyway.

I hadn't been checking in on this thread, but then I sensed a great disturbance in the Force (granted, I'm a little late in responding to it).

Oooohhh...yeah. I'll be a daddy this summer.

Yep, there it is.

Seriously, though, congratulations on producing a little Squion to carry on your legacy. :)

This is basically it. She goes to school a couple hours away, but her hometown is right here. She only has one semester left of school, and then she'll be living back here full-time. It's not THAT long a time.

This new girl, however, lives in downtown Chicago, so if we ended up getting together, it would give me a reason to go into the city!

A couple of hours from Chicago.....University of Wisconsin?

Not that I care, it's just one of those "I-just-did-that-drive-last-weekend" things.

Not even close. Like the completely opposite direction of Wisconsin.

I mean, there are a lot of things that are 2 hours from Chicago.

I figured there were a lot of options. You'd be surprised how many times those "I wonder if...." niggles at the back of your mind turn out to be true though. Ah well, doesn't matter.

Inspired by this thread, I've given OKCupid a go.

So far, started up a nice conversation with a girl that showed promise until I told her I'd like to go out sometime, then she immediately went silent. Another one and I had a couple of nice conversations before admitted to all kinds of social anxieties and declared she wasn't really looking to meet anyone in the real world (so why join!?).

Alas. It seems I'm about as good at online dating as I am at real dating. Nothing to see here, folks, move along.

Um...Girl #1 (who will henceforth be known as Angela) just tried calling me...at 3am.

I chose not to answer because I am attempting to go to bed.

Weird.

^^ If she has a cell phone, she could have been calling from your driveway. :rommie:
