*~*~The Great J/C Thread~*~*

Problem is I can't see there being a film set in the TNG-era now that we have XI.

I'm with you on this one.

To be honest I don't feel too upset about that. I think the way they write Trek has changed, it's generally darker, so there's a good chance they'd either kill Janeway off officially, or someone else. I prefer things left to the imagination now - at least with the books we have our 'it's not canon' argument!

On the other hand they seem to grab the bull by the horns and deal with issues now, eg they officially married Troi and Riker - maybe if we'd had a film we'd've got our official J/C? Who knows?

I quite liked Star Trek XI, and I like the way it's in an alternate universe so if any point I decide I hate it, if they kill them all off in the next one, I'll just stop watching and it won't affect my enjoyment of my Voyager and TNG dvds. In my head it's separate.

Well, re: Trek XI, I don't really care to think because of this movie, which I did rather like mostly (just not too happy w/ such an important planet...) would mean that TNG, DS9 and Voyager (and even original TOS) might not even happen (or would happen a lot differently). I, myself, prefer to think of that new universe as an alternate one, although potentially interesting. Well, it's all sci fi, yes? Anyway, that means I can definitely think of current Trek lit as truly alternate, and not-canon, so Janeway lives no matter what (well, if PB ever brings her back, then I can consider that universe more positively, ha). Anyway, it could be interesting to see what kind of new Trek TV series would possbily be developed now and if it would be previous Trek or nutrek, but would prefer any Trek that might possibly have Janeway in it, of course (but don't anticipate it, thank goodness for fan fic). Meanwhile, KJ lives, you betcha!

I completely agree with Kataaran!
I continue to buy Voy books after Full Circle only if they bring Janeway back.

That's why I'm so grateful to the Janeway Lives Campaign (& the Story Challenge), she will always be with us!

Re: How would TPTB deal with Kathryn's death in the books, if ever they brought VOY back to the large or small screen? They'd ignore it. Just like TNG ignored Shatner's version of where the BORG came from before "1st Contact" was filmed. Shatner's book was pretty good, and I wondered if TPTB would do as well... until I saw the movie. The movie blew the book out of the water! The only problem is that people who write for Trek are too hidebound to "trek rules" and any new story would pale because of it. One of the reasons ST XI did so well was that they set out to break rules. Now, if only they would do a miniseries of Voyager, where the trek standards were "broken", then maybe we see something worth watching. YMMV

I watched Resolutions last night for the first time in over a year.

I'd forgotten (maybe I never appreciated as last time I was rediscovering Voy after a long break, and Resolutions was early in the seven seasons) just how different Kathryn becomes throughout the course of the few weeks they were on the planet.

So ... if we accept that the scene in Full Circle on Proxima Station happened, or if we don't but we instead accept an alternate future where J/C happens at some point ... if she was working as an Admiral, and had her uniform on probably for their date with it being inbetween work engagements, but at the same time she was more relaxed because they were not stranded in the Delta Quadrant any more and Chak wasn't her direct subordinate so she's freer to relax with him - which 'Kathryn' would we see?

Would she be much 'softer' like at the end of resolutions over the tomato plants, or would she still have some elements of the military 'Captain' about her?

Oh and by the way - why don't we see her being given the bathtub? I though there was a scene where she discovered what Chak had been doing and he gave her it - I must have made that up because when I watched it last night it went straight from him teasing her that she couldn't wait to see what it was, through a load of other stuff back on Voyager, to her lying there in 'the tub that Chakotay made for me'. How disappointing!

Maybe you read it in a fic Frazzled, I know there are a lot of "Resolutions" fic out there. Years ago someone said you couldn't consider yourself a Janeway/Chakotay writer until you had written a "Resolutions" fic, a turbolift fic, and a busted fic.

There is also some J/C lore around that bathtub, there are those that think it's stashed away in one of Voyager's cargo bays.

Brit (who doesn't intend to cook tomorrow LOL)

Well I think it's a shame that they didn't show it!

Hmmm depending on whether the practical Captain won out or now they may have taken the bathtub - it was absolutely beautiful, and he bloomin' well made the thing for her! Wow!

I was quite surprised to be reminded that they left the house there - I do remember her saying the monkey could have it. Seems a waste of resources and also a bit littering of them!

Enjoy your leftovers Brit,

Frazzled - taking a break betewen hounding estate agents and solicitors :borg:

I've always loved 'Voy' stories, Christie Golden is one of my favs. I think, due to the way she writes, she enjoys the J/C relationship. When I saw Kristen Beyers book, I was interested because of her other stories. When I looked at in the store, I discovered that Kathyrn was killed, I refused to buy it untill the second book came out. I had hoped it was a missing persons type twist. When that didn't happed, I didn't want to read either book, I felt like my favorite aunt had been killed. However, Spock did come back from the dead, and in Star Trek, anything can happen and anything can be.

Remember in one of the 'Q' episodes, the one with is son, Q appears in Kathyrn's bath... maybe that the one Chakotay made for her???
I don't believe so, Auntieprise1701. Chak's bath was much smaller, and her's on the ship looked large enough to do laps in. :-) Recall as they were unpacking on the planet, Kathryn told Chak that she relaxed in a bath on Voyager, so the one we saw her in likely was the one she had all along. Hmmm. Perhaps Kathryn's wooden bathtub is in Chakotay's quarters. ;-)

I read an excerpt from the Full Circle book and the beginning six to ten pages are absolutely beautiful but hard to read! It was so sweet what Chakotay was saying about Janeway and he was anticipating her arrival in Venice..but then sadly it was ripped away. :( I seem to think that she's still alive somewhere also. That the Voyager crew has to find her and bring her back. I don't think she's really dead! And it killed me when I read that they killed her off in one of the books!!!

The prologue in Full Circle was almost cruel; Chakotay was so happy and then his (and our) spirits were summarily dashed. It was hard to read the rest of the book after that - even the part where KJ was still alive. But, with her spirit still existing w/ the Q, there is always hope that she could come back (altho I'm not waiting w/ baited breath) in the books, and with the Janeway Lives campaign, she is certainly alive in fan fic (and since I'm ignoring any more Trek Lit w/ out her, I can pretend that this whole mess never happened). GS

Oh I agree GS, then to wade through over 200 (or was it 300?!) pages of Klingon stuff was impossible - I read the second half first then went back! I feally felt choked up.

I've read some great fanfic inspired by it though!

Of course Janeway lives. Heck, in my quantum reality, she never died. (That's my story and I'm sticking with it.)

Speaking of my quantum reality, the one where Janeway didn't die an ignoble death in ANOTHER trek series novel a few years after she returned to the Alpha quadrant, check out this fanfic novel.

Bring a big cup of coffee and a soft pillow as you warp through 10 days in Admiral Janeway's life... 10 years after she defeated the BORG and returned home to the AQ.

^ Woot! I always love to hear about new fanfic plus a new discussion board (well, for me) to boot. Thanks!

Spoiler proviso. After chapters where new characters are introduced, photos of actors/actresses who would best fill the role have been added. If you don't want to know "who's" coming down the road, don't jump ahead to look at the photos. Photos of Voyager regulars are also added, to remind people that 10 years HAVE passed and that "Admirals" don't necessarily look like Captains, and Lt. Commanders no longer look like Ensigns. (The pic of the Admiral, however, is outstanding IMO.)
