On Thursday, the California Public Utilities Commission gave its blessing to an agreement that would see the Pacific Gas and Electric Company buy 200 megawatts of power beamed down from solar-power satellites beginning in 2016.

Took long enough.

The Japanese are already in the process of getting one into space and something tells me it's going to be a lot bigger. LINK
 
Beam spread from the Clark Belt says they damn well better cough up some powerful, reliable, and non-finicky masers for something like this to have any hope of commercial viability.
 
Considering the fact that the Shuttle is going to be retired in 5 more flights and
we're going to struggle to get anything in orbit the size of a 1960's capsule,
I'd say the chances of putting up anything that can make USEFUL power as slim and none...

Your money just got flushed down the drain, kids....

(I was a huge proponent of the Orbital Solar Power Systems back in the '70s
and you can see how many of them we've got in orbit now.)
