Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me!

And this is what Paula Poundstone is doing now? I remember her from the (And yes I know I need to get a life) John O'Hurley To Tell the Truth and the whole situation she was accused of.

Okay, now I have to know. What was she accused of?

I still listen to this podcast, but not as much as I'd like to. I used to listen to podcasts on the bus but now I have to do homework during that time so all podcasts have been pushed to the side. I only have one semester of school left though, so hopefully it will be back to podcasts after that.

I had to look it up myself. It ended up not being as bad as I originally thought.

I'm not into cars, but those darn guys on Car Talk make it so fucking enjoyable. And I love the instrumental theme to the show.

I also started listening to Car Talk this week. That's probably my favorite new show. Those guys are filled with hilarity and I love the puzzlers they have (Don't tell me the answer to the current one, haven't heard it yet) Unless something better comes along, this is the best call-in show in America I've heard.

Car Talk is a lot of fun, but I love Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me! I agree with the OP and others that it's one of the few shows that I just hate to miss.

Another good radio program that airs on NPR is:

A Prairie Home Companion

Sometimes it can lag a bit and have stretches of songs that aren't interesting, but it's got some funny stuff in it.

Maybe I got the right crowd here in this thread:

Anybody recall the name of a '50's game show that had hilarious pannelists who were blindfolded and had to guess by asking questions who the special guest was (I don't recall what else they did on the show). It was hilarious! And way more with inuendos than you'd find in a show from that era.

Yes. In my opinion, Garrison Keillor is a Radio God. His voice was made for radio. And his storytelling ability is amazing. Always look forward to hearing about what happened in Lake Wobegone this week.

It goes without saying that A Prairie Home Companion is amazing. The wonderful film Robert Altman did a few years back only gives you a taste of how awesome that show is.

Sounds like What's My Line? , where the panel guessed a contestant's occupation, and at the end of the program were blindfolded to guess the identity of the mystery guest. Apparently it ran longer than any other primetime game show in US history.

Dorothy Kilgallen was hi-larious. :techman:

I hate to be the downer here, but while my mother loves the show, I can't stand it. Everyone just sounds so smug about their lame and obvious jokes, and it's all pitched so maddeningly down the political middle.

In short, it's got nothing on The Young Turks, a three-hour Monday-Friday radio/internet/Sirius politics and entertainment show that provides laughs, lots of incisive analysis and honest, straightforward opinion.

You could very well be right, Gaith, but to be honest, I don't listen to Wait, Wait for incisive analysis and honest, straightforward opinion. I listen for the laughs - I get my incisive analysis and honest, straightforward opinion elsewhere. So if you don't find it funny, I can easily imagine why you wouldn't like the show.

That's it!

For any of those who have not seen it, check out the random YouTube pieces. Here's one with Hugh Hefner (chose a familiar name, because unlike today, in that show when they had someone famous on, it wasn't some no-name pop diva, boy band leader, or talentless actor):

Fair enough. :)

Just started listening to this week's Wait Wait and George Tekai is going to be on. Pity they don't get anyone from the other Star Treks like Levar Burton or something. That would be nice.
