Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me!

So, does anyone else think this is just about the best show on radio OR television?

I missed the live broadcast this week and it was killing me for days until I was able to download and listen to the podcast on my way home from work tonight.

It occurred to me after it was over -- and I was experiencing my weekly post-Wait-Wait blues -- that there isn't one other single program -- radio or tv -- that I look forward to as much, nor one I will go out of my way to see/hear during its original broadcast. And there's nothing that makes me laugh out loud as heartily or as often. Nothing.

LOL! And I may have to go back and add Peter Sagal to my "favorite radio voices" post.

Anyway, just wondering if there are any other "Wait Wait addicts" out there, I guess.

I LOVE "Wait, Wait..." The humor is great and I love the guests they bring in. They get major kudos from me for having had guys like Bruce Campbell and Leonard Nimoy on. It also brings up news stories I sometimes have not heard about so I can research them more. It's one of my favorite podcasts to listen to on weekends.

I used to listen to it rather religiously a year ago, but I lost track of it and don't know what time it coems on here (they moved around times for shows).

Would also liste nto Car Talk, Coast to Coast AM, Neal Boortz (love him or hate him, he's widely entertaining, and his book -- hilarious), and another show I can't recall the name of.

I get a kick of out Wait Wait. I also really like What'dya Know? With Michael Feldman.

The NPR show that I try to never miss, though, is Weekend Edition with Scott Simon on Saturday mornings. The Sunday edition with Leann Hansen just isn't the same.

I love it as well, though I haven't been listening for a while because I've just been too busy. Usually I listen to the podcast while on the bus to school, but since school's been out for the summer I haven't had that chance. Hopefully I can get back into it soon. If there were any particularly good episodes over the past 3 months let me know and I will check them out.

I absolutely LOVE "Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me!" Paula Poundstone and Tom Bodett are my two favorite panelists, but I love them all. Sadly, since I've been stationed in Japan, I haven't been able to listen to it.

The Congress, um, boy, was on this past weekend. I don't know what this week's episode will be.

I came across the show something like two years ago listening to the radio, but I rarely listen on Saturday mornings. Last year, I found the podcast and have faithfully been downloading them and listening to them on Monday mornings as I drive to work. They certainly get me off to a good start and given me something to look forward to on Mondays.

I try to play along in the car, to the best of my ability. I'm pretty good at "Who's Carl this Time" and the "Lightning Round." Sometimes the "Bluff the Listener" stories are easy to pick out and sometimes, not so much. The "Not My Job" questions, in my opinion, are the toughest, and the "Limerick Challenge" questions vary, though more often than not, I can get it.

For those who are familiar with the podcast, but listen to the live broadcast, is it the same thing, minus commericals, or is the live broadcast extended?

Finally, I have to agree with EMH about Paula and Tom, but I also really enjoy Mo. The recent episodes with Charlie, Roy, and Amy have been great due to the dynamic of two older guys and a younger woman (especially discussing Woodstock this past week). Kyrie is the only one who I don't particularly enjoy, as I find her voice to be somewhat annoying. I did like the addition of Julia Sweeney to the panel and hope she does future shows as well.

BBC has The News Quiz and The Now Show which I like as well.

Edit: The podcast is a 40 minute episode without commercials. I have no idea if anything's missing, since I'm Canadian and can't listen to it live.

I'm also curious about the podcasts, although when I'm underway (which I am right now) I wouldn't be able to listen to them anyways.

Mo is also awesome, as are Roy, Charlie, and Amy, but like I said, I love them all (even Paul Provenza despite hating his character on Northern Exposure).

YAY!!! I'm so glad to find fellow fans!!!

I have to agree that I think I like Paula and Tom probably the best, but they all have their good points and their moments. There was a recent episode where they just kept going on and on, riffing on each other, until Peter finally had to ask if they'd lost the caller. I love it when that happens.

Yes, this week was Aaron Schock, and he was actually pretty good. After all the talk about this shirtless pic I had to google him and Da-yum, they were right! As Peter might say, I wish he were my Congressman because he's "dreamy".

I'm a big fan of the "Not My Job" segment, but it does definitely depend on how "into it" the guest is. I remember being pleasantly surprised by a few, and surprisingly disappointed by some I thought would be good. Of course, Nimoy was probably the high point, and Carrie Fisher was fun, too. And there was someone on recently ..., a female singer I'd never heard of ... who was so funny and witty that I made a note to look her up and maybe check out her music ... and then I promptly forgot.

I'll look it up and post her name.

The Podcasts are great; just like the real thing but without the breaks. Though, I do find that each week is so topical it's tough to wait much more than a week to listen or you're behind and the jokes aren't quite as biting.

Sorry to bounce this up, but I was looking for New Podcasts to listen to, and listened to the episode of this last week (I guess it was kind of a "Best of" since they had Bruce Campbell, Some guy who likes walking on Wires, John Cena, and Jimmy Fallon) and it was great. Going to listen to a couple more, but I think I found another keeper.

I also listened to the Car Talk podcast and that show was laugh out loud funny.

I listened to the Leonard Nimoy clip and I think I just gained a whole lot more respect for Sagal. That guy's a self proclaimed nerd. Not that that's a bad thing, but given this is NPR and Star Trek doesn't come up all that often, it made me smile a bit.

I still listen to this podcast, but not as much as I'd like to. I used to listen to podcasts on the bus but now I have to do homework during that time so all podcasts have been pushed to the side. I only have one semester of school left though, so hopefully it will be back to podcasts after that.
