Appendix has been removed

Well, it's time for probably the last update. The nurse said today that it looks like it's starting to scab over now, and they're reducing the visits to twice a week. So won't be long until it's totally healed. If that's the case it looks like I'm going to have an extra large belly button, but I can live with that

Yeah, it's all been fairly normal for the last few weeks. The cavity has healed up, they've gone from using 3 15x15cm pieces of aquacel packing to using half of a 10x10cm piece. The packing has gone from being soaked through in a day to being dry to the point of sticking after 3 days. So it's all gone well, even if it has taken getting on for 4 months to get over a simple case of appendicitis.

Sounds like great progress!

Well looks like it's finally over, and it's only taken 4 months...

The nurses have stopped visits now. All that's left is what looks like a huge bellybutton, and a scab.

I just realised today that it is exactly 1 year since I had my appendix removed. I thought I would post an update. Here's a pic of what it looks like now...

Strange thing has happened though, a couple of days ago my niece started getting pains in her belly, she was taken in to hospital and she's had her appendix removed today. Looks like there may be some complications though so it's a bit like deja vu all over again.

When I clicked the link I was hoping for a picture of the appendix

Sorry to hear about your niece though, is she going to be ok?

 I haven't got the appendix back, although they did tell me if I want I can have the scar surgically repaired. I don't know what gives them the idea I would want to under go more surgery when any surgery at all is pretty much life threatening. But I guess there are some people out there who wouldn't want the scar there, but I don't really care, I show it to pretty much anyone who asks about it.

Sounds like she should be, they apparently didn't find much wrong with her appendix but found a lesion in her bowel, which they think might have caused an infection. She's been in a lot of pain since the operation, but it sounds like she's beginning to settle now.

Didn't realise this was an old thread, so I was reading from the beginning and I got as far as you getting the vac-pack applied to your wound and I was thinking "damn, didn't that have to happen last time too?" which is when I thought to check the date...

Happy one year anniversary of life without your appendix, Bob!

You thought I had a second appendix removed? :p Thanks.

Just waiting to hear if things have settled down and my niece is allowed to come home today.

Actually, the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw this thread bumped, was "what, has it grown back again?" :D

(ZR will doubtless now chime in to remind us all that one can occasionally have appendicitis twice, because he loves to spoil my jokes. ;) )
