The Scarlet Witch

EJA

Fleet Captain
Why are Marvel writers always doing such awful things to this poor character? They've taken away her children (something I will never, EVER forgive John Byrne for), broken up her marriage to the Vision, and sent her totally insane! Her life is just one long chain of tragedy. :(

Well, she never should have gotten married to an android in the first place. It's against nature's design. ;)

Wanda losing her kids has always left a nasty taste in my gut. One of the things I liked about Peter David's The Last Avengers Story was that it was set in an alternate reality where Wanda and the Vision got to keep Thomas and William; the only downside is that Wanda died when the twins were about 9 or 10, and Vision upped and left them. :(

Yea, Wanda really gets the crap heaved on her in 616. That's kind of why I liked the X-men Evolution and Wolverine & the X-men versions where she's younger and none of that has happened to her.

I kinda like how Wolverine & The X-men has her and Nightcrawler liking each other since them getting together in another universe gave birth to Nocturne who I always enjoyed in Exiles.

And they killed her in the Ultimate universe. :(

DOOM did it. Or Loeb.

/Loeb sucks.

I'm right now reading the early Avengers Essentials volumes and I totally get the ridiculous headgear comment. Also early Wanda had the hots for Steve Rogers (but that might just have been stereotyping by Stan Lee. Wasp also makes goo-goo eyes at every hunk that she sees (but ends up going back to Hank Pym) ). However she was drawn very HOT by Don Heck whenever in her civvies.

Also - didn't she literally "erase" out most of the mutants from history? Or did she just depower them?

I think whenever the comics do reality-altering as a power, it becomes something of an albatross. A character that powerful just can't be challenged. And the writers end up with all kinds of things in order to circumvent the character from having such a power. Hence Franklin Richards...

On the bright side, I think that currently she is still depowered and hopefully they can avoid the shennenigans with her powers again.

Witch was a much better character than Wasp in the early Avengers days. Wasp was an absolutely embarrassing stereotype in the early going.

Susan Storm was even worse back in the early early days of the FF. I've been reading the Essential B&W trades.
