So, is Blu-Ray worth it, yet?

They've also dropped prices on Blu-Ray drives for the PC.
Blu-Ray readers are now about $59 and dropping.
Blu-Ray burners are now about $179 and dropping.

J.

Do those prices also apply to Canada as well (that's where I live)?:vulcan:

You can find these prices in places like Newegg.com and TigerDirect.com, so if they ship to Canada, then yes.

SD cards will not replace Blu-ray anytime soon as there is no backing or hardware from within those responsible for the production of content and players. The next generation (excluding 3D Blu-ray) will almost certainly be downloadable content from the internet.

Actually there are a large assortment SD card players both portable and designed for home theatre use. Some in the neighborhood of $50. More and more LCD HDTVs are being made with SDHC slots built into them.

Will SDHC replace blu-ray in the immediate future? Probably not, price point being the immediate reason, a 32 gig class 6 SDHC is about $100. A blank Blu-ray is about $3.

The real question is when will the price point become compatible. That's when blu-ray goes the way of the 8-track.

Well, I'm still not waiting until 2025 to start buying something new. It will be ridiculously expensive and everyone will be saying not to buy it because something better will come along in 2050.

I'm holding out for the format thats in higher def than real life. :)

And I can get a 27 inch hdtv for $200.

Exactly. Something better will always be coming down the road. It's silly not to upgrade on that basis.
