Which reminds me, I'm still debating about what to call the starship class that immediately preceeded the Constitution Class, as exemplified by the AMT 18" model.

I'm split between Baton Rouge class or Bonhomme Richard class...

Uh... Bonhomme Richard! Baton Rouge is widely regarded as something else.

Yeah, Bonhomme Richard does have the edge in that department...

Well, nobody knows where my proposal is at Pocket, since both Marco Palmieri and Margaret Clark are no longer there.

Maybe I'll get lucky with the new girl...

I think it's time to start inching back to some, at least, preliminary work on redoing these suckers.

First, a basic cross-section of the primary hull...

Shaw's determined that there's only room for eight full decks, and since he's done a ton of research on this that I can only dream of, I'll defer to his findings. I'm also clearly sticking to my lowered bridge concept, since it allows for a forward facing bridge, as well as working in the implied history of the ship by maintaining the larger pilot dome (just internalizing it a bit).

Along these lines, I've also decided that a nifty innovation for the bridge itself is the notion that the pedestal that the command chair is on can be raised or lowered, depending on the occupant's wishes. Pike liked it lowered all the way down, Kirk liked it up.

FINALLY!! Some actual work instead of yet another jibber jabber post to keep the thread alive! Thank God! I'm actually super excited.

Tell you the truth CRA, seeing it illustrated thusly, I can *almost* get behind this whole lowered bridge idea of yours. And I really do like the idea that the captain's chair is on an elevating platform. Nice.

    Keep it coming!

That raised area in the middle, with the command chair and helm/nav console, seems to be just tall enough to accommodate a pedestal that can raise or lower without a whole lot of extra work, as well as taking care of Pike's lower chair position.

Are you trying to get them to do a full-blown tech manual or a set of deck-plans? Just curious.

What exactly did you approach them with, any professional looking materials/drawings? Do you have an agent? Were you referred through someone that they already know? Do you have any previous publications they can look at?

Not trying to put a damper on you, but just being on the realistic side. These are things that are looked at, otherwise you will just be seen as a fanboy with a "wouldn't it be cool if.." idea.

I'd had previous contact with Marco Palmieri (helped him out with some translations he was having trouble with; payment was in the form of the "Strange New Worlds" coffee table art book and a new copy of the Star Trek Encyclopedia :D ), so I asked him first, and sent him some samples of what I was doing at the time. I'd heard that they'd made it to John Ordover's desk, but nothing happened beyond that, and since the previous regime has now since gone, who knows where my packet is now.

I like that notion! So as well as wearing taller heels, Kirk can also sit in a taller chair. What a guy

Seriously though, I hadn't even realised that Pike's bridge was missing that "command block". Always nice to learn something new.

Your bridge appears to have dropped a lot into the teardrop section. I thought that only a third of the original bridge dome was chopped off?

  13. Captain Robert April

Captain Robert April Vice Admiral Admiral

Nope, it was chopped in half.

I think I might do a pilot version cross-section and get that circular briefing room that gets eliminated when the bridge is dropped...

Before I get to that briefing room, though, I figured it might be prudent to better confirm just how much the bridge was lowered/shortened, so I called up Alan Sinclair's drawings and did some overlaying with Shaw's stuff...

What this tells me is that the bridge doesn't have to be lowered quite as much as initially thought.

Hmm, looks like it only loses the bottom third...

Which helps the bridge maintain its customary position as the highest point in the ship.

Now, if only this could win over some more converts...
