I love..GAGA!!!

She's not my cup of tea either, but I've been involved in music long enough to know that, yes, she has staying power, much more than, say, the overrated Amy Winehouse.

Wow, this thread really blew up in no time. I'm surprised that so many people like her. She strikes me as one of those pop stars people are supposed to hate.

What do I think of her? I saw her in an interview a while back and wasn't impressed with her flashy platinum blonde persona. And yeah, I also thought she looked like a man in drag. I do however like the song "Paparazzi", and she looks really good in that 2005 clip posted upthread. If she went around looking like that I might have taken more notice.

If she went around looking like she did in 2005 she'd be mistaken for Vanessa Carlton. That's kind of the problem--she has to stand out because there are just way too many "cute chick on a piano" acts out there.

So, she's doing it her way and for that I give her mad props. :techman:

And I came into this just a few days back, so I only know of her what I have seen on the AMA and LENO show. And in her talk with Leno she came off pretty smart..and witty. Fresh.

Rob

Despite her music note being even close to my cup of tea, that I think she's talented, intelligent, and was absolutely hilarious in on Jeno. That being said, I don't know long someone can be around burning the candles at both ends.

Also, anyone else surprised at how thick of new york accent she still has. People like her usually go through voice training to soften it up.

Maybe some people actually decided to check her out and judge her on her true merits, rather than make offhand comments? I don't know.

Lady Gaga seems to be getting a lot more love in this thread than in the one from October: http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=105452&highlight=lady+gaga.
What happened? Were subliminal messages beamed out during her recent performances?

Well, to be honest, I have never heard of her before. And I would never had heard of her if I hadn't watched the AMA in anticipation of Adam Lambert (who sucked, in more ways than one) and then she came on sang a song, playing a flaming piano, and smashing bottles on it..and...AND..the song was pretty good too.

The rest of the show was dreadrul. So, that is why I love this Lady Gaga. I just saw a YOUTUBE thing with Christopher Waldken singing one of her songs...so...she must be doing something right...

Rob

I had never seen her before the AMA show, and then last night she was on Jay Leno. The song was interesting, but I really liked the interview. She came off pretty intelligent. She won me over when she said she idolized Judy Garland AND Led Zepplin. Wow...

I'll say it again; her performance, and more importantly, her songs were far and away the best part of that show. All the other women were awful..she was unique AND her songs actually had some great chord progressions.

So...yes, GAGA was good!!

Rob

If you're talking about Lady Gaga, then I agree, she does sing good :)

I think she sucks and her awful music is typical pop garbage. She'll be a distant memory ten years from now.

In other news, my friends and I all refer to vaginas as Lady Gagas. As in, I'd like to see a picture of her Lady Gaga.

Yes.

I didn't know she sung Just Dance which I like on Ellen and I was at a friends / date's on November 13th and I hated her music.

Then a few days later I loved her, Bad Romance was stuck in my head, she has taken over the music world.

So yes, that's the only way to explain it. Or God loves her too.

You mean William Shatner likes her too...no way!

I wanted to hate her so that I'd be the cool internet guy who hates someone popular...but she's really really good. Maybe I can be the cool internet guy who likes someone who is hated by other cool internet guys.

LOL...I know what you mean. My brother-in-law read this where he works and is already giving me shit for it. He says I am channeling my inner 'gayness' since all her fans are gay.

WTF????

Honestly I thought most of her male fans were gay, but there are a lot of guys here who like her and I'd guess they aren't all gay.

Hey I got all sorts of female artists I like who are very talented with what they do, they just don't have to dress up like a jester and grind their crotch in the camera to get heard or taken seriously.

I don't think anybody who listens to her music are all gay or straight.... heck listen to what you want..... but my views on her and her music have nothing to do with trying to come off cool or to not sound like i'm gay or whatever..... I honestly don't care much for her work and while she may be talented, she's not as talented as those I actually pay to listen to, via concerts and albums.

People have different tastes and likes.... and to come in and try to insult or attack those who like her stuff isn't any better then those who like her stuff who attack those who don't agree with them that she's good.
