When I was a kid they had all sorts of phasers & communicators that sucked, now they are available in near-perfect versions! Do we have to wait another 40 years until classic designs from Trek are used again in movies?? Even "loosely"?

May or may not be greatness*, but it certainly isn't perfection. I find the TMP refit to be superior, and the Trek XI redesign about equal overall.


*It was great for it's day, but the design is showing its age these days, despite claims to the contrary.

I love the refit because it was just that; a refit. It was an in-universe upgrade and it looked great to boot.

The new Enterprise is a mess. Bulbous nacelles that are too close together and a neck that starts at the back. It looks horrible from just about any angle.

I agree that the TOS was a classic, but the TMP refit was just beautifully well done! From sleek shape to lighting and color, I liked every bit of it. This new version is an oversized, hulking, ugly, cartoony mess. Model Co.'s won't be getting any of my money.

I agree with you 100%, Chrisisall. The TOS Enterprise is, IMnsHO, the most beautiful spaceship ever.

The re-fit comes in 2nd, but not a close one. I've never liked the rectangular/triangular/whateverular shaped nacelles.

Yeah the new enterprise sucks big balls. I love the TOS and Movie one almost equally. The refit stayed close to the true style of the ship. Its just a great design.

I always get a chuckle at the Movie board when fans who once hated the NUTenterprise now love it. Saying it grew on them. As far as Im concerned if something isnt asthetically pleasing to my eye the first time or two it doesnt "grow" on me. Yeah I may get used to it but I not going to ever think its a good design.

Agreed. Except that I still love the TOS design. The ST09 ship is just a fucked up mess at any angle.
