These Are The Voyages - Your Opinion, Please

I thought TATV wasn't awful. It may not have been the best finale ever, but the reaction is over the top and undeserved. I think the hub bub about TATV is almost amusing.

How about a teaser that takes up where the Thing left off. Riker and Troi proceed down the corridor away from the holodeck, discussing all the wondrous things Riker learned from hanging out on Enterprise. As they disappear around the bend, the camera angles down to Barclay, spanner in hand, closing up a circuitry panel labeled HOLODECK PROGRAMMING. He strolls away, taking a swig from a near-empty bottle of Andorian ale, giggling drunkenly to himself. "I can't believe they actually fell for that..."

End teaser. (And all participation by the TNG cast.) Roll Enterprise opening credits.
Something like that would have made Barclay look like an irresponsible imbecile for pulling a prank during a serous situation for both his superior officer and his ship. Simply put, it would have been a really bloody character assassination, IMO.
Ummm... joke. J-O-K-E. It's been knocking around here for years-- "Barclay was drunk and messed with the holodeck programming." Our own pookha (who knows TNG far better than I) even worked out why Barclay would have a bone to pick with Riker and would have reason to pull a prank on him.

The Barclay joke doesn't take the reference to "The Pegasus" seriously, of course, considering the obvious continuity mismatch in the appearance of Riker and Troi...

Oh, I dunno. It wasn't great, that's for sure, but City on the Edge of Forever and The Inner light were both much, much worse.
Please use emoticons in the future... Someone may mistake your sarcasm for a serous statement...

I was serious.

Completely.
Hm, that's... Interesting. I always thought people who liked TATV were either simply ENT-haters, or just trolling, but this... Saying that "City on the Edge of Forever" (a TV classic), and "The Inner Light" (a masterpiece) are worse... Well, this is certainly new to me... Oh, de gustibus non est disputandum, lets just leave it at that...

Stop it. There are plenty of people who like TATV because they like TATV. Calling them names doesn't win you any points. Let's just leave it at that.

It's just an opinion.

And I don't exactly like TATV. As I said, it has it's flaws. I guess you could say I'm on the fence. But it is better than those other two, which are nothing but silly love stories that take you right out of Star Trek.

I never implied that you liked TATV. I was just surprised that someone would mention two such classic episodes in negative context.

Because Braga's concepts of "bonus" and "valentine" involved anal fisting with a boxing glove and getting bashed in the face with a ball-peen hammer.
So this new show... FlashForward. It's not going to have a very good ending is it?

John Cho's character dies inside a circus tent after being raped by a drunken, nearsighted clown.

There. Someone had to say it.

I'm intentionally not watching that show, so I can have the last laugh when they (eventually) cancel it.

Oh, it'll get canceled. It just has that feel to it. Like it was designed to last just one year if THAT long then it'll spend an eternity as a moderate cult hit on DVD and BluRay.

I think there's so much about TATV that if one doesn't like it, it being a "holodeck episode" was pretty easy to dismiss.

I actually don't mind TATV for that reason. I'll watch it, I'll enjoy it for the unusual situation that the ENT characters are stored in the Enterprise-D computer, presented with over 100 years of historical drift... and I'll consider how neatly the relaunch novels bypassed the fiction of Trip's fate.

I'd rather sit through TATV than the following episodes:

Dark Page TNG
11:59 VOY
Meridian DS9
And the Children Shall Lead TOS

Ah. Okay, gotcha.
:bolian:

Based on my past experience, I think your dead wrong! People who like TATV because "they like TATV" are pretty small minority. The more you talk with those that like TATV the more their real reasons for liking the episode comes out.

You appear to have missed my point. It doesn't matter how many viewers like TATV for whatever reason. It doesn't matter whether you agree or disagree with them. It does matter that you respect their opinions, and refrain from disparaging remarks and petty name-calling.

Perhaps I did miss the point. I'm just saying that those who truley liked TATV for its compelling plot, great writing, satisfying outcome and excellent use of the characters are few and far between. I've learned over the last 2 year that there are other reasons certain "fans" like TATV, but I'm sure you don't want me to list them here.

I assume the pro-TATV folks liked it for all sorts of reasons. Hey, T'Pol's hair looks cool in it! And there's an Archer-Trip drinking scene! And they used Jeff Combs again! And the production values are top-notch, as usual! So it depends on the viewer. I've found something to like about every episode of Enterprise.

Right you are, sir. :)

There was something perversely entertaining about Riker and Troi being there.

^^ See? See? ;)
Thank you, billcosby, for making my point for me. "Liking TATV is perverse." Cha ching!

*ducks*

Aw, well... People tend to be superficial, nothing new there. I mean, "New Moon" just made 73 million on its opening day, for crying out loud.
