what bands do you really love

Really love? As opposed to just like a lot...?

The Fall
Joy Division
The Smiths
Talking Heads
The Sisters of Mercy
Dexys Midnight Runners
Adam and the Ants
Roxy Music
Bowie
X-Ray Spex

Too many to list. But at the moment I'm really digging Spock's Beard. Only discovered them a few months ago, and I find them to be highly addicting.

On A Perfect Day
The Light
Thoughts
The Doorway

Nothing says "big balls" like bringing 2 Mellotrons and a Hammond on stage.

Other stuff I'm listening to the moment is Dream Theater, King Crimson, old Metallica, Opeth and 60s-to-early-70s Zappa (I listen to Absolutely Free, Hot Rats and The Grand Wazoo daily).

If you guys like this thread, you might like the thread down in Misc, where you can create your own band name/album name/album cover using some random selection. It's been a hell of a lot of fun and very addictive.

If you like all those bands, you should give Porcupine Tree a listen.

I've been meaning to give Porcupine Tree a listen for quite a while. I love the Opeth albums Steve Wilson worked on, and my friend is obsessed with them. I'll check those links out.

I'm pretty obsessed with Porcupine Tree as well.

I've noticed a lot of crossover between Porcupine Tree fans and most of the bands you mentioned. Opeth, Spock's Beard, Rush, etc.

I also want to add Alice in Chains to my list. Dirt is one of my favourite albums ever. Facelift and Jar of Flys have more than their fair share of awesome too.

Sigh...I know I'm dating myself here. Thanks to Little Stevie's gargage, I'm getting into some great newer bands...slowly.

So much music - so little time.

Bands I like enough to own their music

Beatles
the Who
U2
Oasis
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band

Gravity Kills

You're the first person I've ever known to even acknowledge those guys. Superstarved was an incredible album. Why the hell they split up barely a year after it has always been one of electro-rock's biggest mysteries for me.

One of few groups to pull off a decent Depeche Mode cover.

What did you think of the new album?

I loved it personally, and I think it has a great deal of dignity about it. Plus Jerry has really grown up a lot since the days of Dirt.

^ I haven't heard the new album, but I thought that they kicked mighty arse on Jools Holland the other week.

^ Great performance, although the new singer's vocals were too low, and what is with positioning him to the side? He IS the frontman, they should let him act like one. When they do gigs he is not positioned off to the side, but always for TV appearances.

If you enjoyed that, I unhesitatingly recommend the album.
