I warned YOU!!!!

Can you think of movies, any movies, or heck TV shows, that warned society about the coming 'whatever' and was right? The late 70s had all those movies about killer bees from Africa. now there seems to be many movies with an 'enviromental' warning to them.

well..the bees came.

What movies can you think of that you saw as a child warned you about 'something' and...the something happened!!!

The pilot episode of The Lone Gunmen was about terrorists attempting to fly a commercial airliner plane into the World Trade Center.

In the show it was the result a government conspiracy to sell more arms, take that as you please :shifty:

I haven't seen it, but a lot of people say Network was very prescient about the blurring of entertainment and news. Andy Warhol did really seem to be on to something with the whole 15 minutes thing.

technically the bees came from south america though. they are "africanized" but they didnt come from africa

George Orwell got pretty fucking close.
Interestingly, the tacked-on happy ending of the British animated film adaptation of "Animal Farm" showed that Napoleon's porcine regime would fall as a result of revolution by the other animals - some 45-odd years before something similar also occurred in the Soviet bloc countries (the creation and rise of Soviet Russia being the very thing the original story was spoofing), although not quite in the same way.

Anyone ever see that episode of the Lone Gunmen about the government plotting to crash a plane into the world trade center to start a war?
I'm no believer in 911 conspiracies, but it was eerie to go back and watch that after the fact. I had taped all the shows when they aired, and I watched them again around 2003, and I'd forgotten all about it.

Whoops, someone already mentioned that.

Soylent Green. I just read an article about some guys that were busted for selling human remains to a bbq joint. Plus, the price of steak in that movie. $10 for a piece the size of a (small) hand. Been to the grocery store lately?

Max Headroom talked about people being converted into data and transmitted. Freaked me out at the time but I can kinda see where they were going with that and where we are now with digital tech.

There was an episode of "Roseanne" where David hooks Jackie up to the internet, which was still farily new in households across the U.S. at the time.

He comes back the next day, and she's still wearing the same cloths. He gets her to admit she never left the computer, and finds out she is in an Steve Urkel chat room. She's obsessed and has withdrawls and refuses to get offline.

Boy, that pretty much just mirrors many people online now. Though I doubt there are currently any Steve Urkel chat rooms. ;-)

Before "Deep Impact", we had an episode of "Seaquest" where on the wall was a picture of "President Colin Powell".

Y2K and the millennium doomsday... boy did they call that one!
That reminds me: at my local "Big Lots" store they still had a vhs tape for sale about the Y2K Millenium Bug and how to prepare for it. They were trying to sell it for $3.00.

Max Headroom's 'blipverts'. There was complaints about some music award show (may have been on MTV here) that slipped in subliminal images of advertisers, which were blatantly clear when slowed down.

The Year of the Sex Olympics - a bit gaudy to look at, but sensationally prescient about entertainment becoming more extreme, and the rise of reality tv.

All this time I've been blaming Bust, it's all Cris Carter's fault.
