you will JUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know them; the scenes from movies where they startle you!!! The head coming out of the bottom of the boat in Jaws...Carrie's hands coming out of the ground...BOOO!!! they startle you and you jump.

What are some other great JUMPING moments you can think of from the world of movies and tv??

If you haven't watched Exorcist III then you need to. It has a scene that's the perfect example of what you're talking about. I saw it in the theater twice way back when and both times audience members screamed with surprise and I actually saw one person jump out of their seat.

I just watched FIVE 0 last night; episode FIFTY AND OVER; STEAL. Does your name come from that classic epsode?

It does not. It comes from one of the 70's Columbo episodes called Fade in to Murder. My avatar is actually a picture of Ward Fowler as played by William Shatner. It's a great episode. I'm a Five O fan but I don't recall the episode title. Was there a Ward Fowler involved? Or judging from the title perhaps fouler. :)

I think it was Thomas Fowler. Hume Cronyn (Spelling?) plays an old dude who robs banks/jewelry stores and leaves a monopoly card behind for McGarrett.

I have that episode of Columbo, and yes that is Shatner from that episode in your avatar. I just made the connection. Love columbo!

It's been many years but I remember that one. It was quite good. When I read the title in your post I thought baseball might have been involved. :)

The Descent: Juno accidentally stabs that chick in the neck, the ending (or near ending if you had to watch the US version).

There was a scene in The Others where she shuts some wardrobe door or something. That scared the crap out of the whole theater.

Aliens. The scene where Burke is looking in the clear cylinders where the colonists were keeping some of the "hand" form aliens for study. You knew that when Burke got closer to the creature in the tube that it would move. I watched this in the theater with my dad. I could see people on either side of me jump back in their seats when that thing reacted. It was pretty funny.

What Lies Beneath... when Harrison Ford's victim suddenly spring to "life" and grabs him ...

Oh yeah... also the opening credits when she wakes up in the bathtub... and then again when she sees her neighbor through the peephole.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park
A couple of the characters have been digging with their hands so they can fit under the door to escape the raptors. When they have a hole big enough, just when they're about to slide through it, one of the raptors lunges its head through the hole.

There's also a lot of scary shit during the raptor attacks in Jurassic Park.

^That was the first movie I remember making me jump in the theater. I was 10 when I went to see Jurassic Park, I loved it, and the scene that made me jump was after the blond chick (I can't remember the character's name), gets the power back on and says something like, "We are back in business," and a raptor springs out behind her.

The most recent movie to make me jump was Star Trek, as a matter of fact. That Romulan who comes out of nowhere and hits Kirk in the side of the head.

Good one! The entire scene in the kitchen with the kids and the raptors is pretty well shot with a lot of startle stuff going on...

The one I most vividly remember is from the first Robocop film. When the ED209 walks into the conference room, virtually everyone in the cinema, myself included, moved back in their chairs! It was a great moment!
