"Blood and Fire, Part 2" Opening Teaser Now Available

GSchnitzer

Co-Executive Producer
In Memoriam
So, we're sneaking the opening teaser of "Blood and Fire," Part 2 into release a little bit ahead of schedule.

(This helps us make sure all our various Internet delivery systems are in place and ready for the full episode's release this Friday.)

So you can see the opening teaser up to and including the opening credits on YouTube:

I hope this helps whet your appetites until the release of the full episode on Friday.

Questions and comments are always welcome.

Now I just want to see the whole thing even more. :techman:

Looks good so far. It's a bit of a mixed blessing to hear Majel's voice do the "last time on star trek", though.

That new Spock is doing the trick.
The production values of this show are off the hook!!

Yes, it is rather bittersweet. We were blessed that Majel agreed to record an enormous library of stock words and phrases that we could imagine wanting our computer to say. So we'll hear her voice for a long time to come. But now the ship sounds a bit, well, haunted.

Seeing Nick getting eaten alive still makes my skin crawl! I'm really looking forward to the 20th. Great job!

Thanks for the sneak peek. However, I do have a minor critique of the "last time on Phase II" recap. It seems a bit disjointed and misleading as to the important narrative bits of part one that presumably carry over into part two.

For instance, it doesn't establish properly the relationship of Peter Kirk to Alex.

It's there but it isn't there. The clip of Peter and Alex in bed does nothing without the context; I feel that a few cut clips from the recap would allow for room of dialogue between Peter and Alex. For example, Scotty's line about "buy me case" is tonally wrong for the recap and a bit jarring. The bit with Xon is misleading as it insinuates a conflict between Peter and him where there is none. That should be ejected in favor of a clip further highlighting Peter and Alex's relationship and marriage--something with dialogue.

Also, what was needed was the turn of the screw--i.e. Captain Kirk's orders to destroy the Copernicus--so that we know what is at stake.

Other than that, I thought that the teaser proper was taut and to the point, much better than the prolonged space battle of the part one teaser.

You are absolutely correct about the recap clips. They don't really recap important stuff--and they do recap unimportant stuff. No Peter/Captain Kirk relationship hinted at, no mention that Kirk has orders to destroy the Copernicus and an important Xon close-up--that's actually unimportant.

I think you got us dead to rights. I don't think this recap is our finest narrative and you'll get no argument from me. I hope people will watch Part 2 right on the heels of Part 1 and that the weaknesses of the "recap" become less important.

This is why I do wait for a story to be completed to watch the whole thing in one sequence (not necessary at one time, but over one or two days). The Phase II work truly satisfies one's craving for fresh Trek, but waiting a year, or close to a year, to finish a story doesn't do it for me, personally. It ruins the story. So, yes, I didn't watch Blood and Fire Part I, but I will in the next couple of weeks... and then watch Part II, either the same day, or in a day or two. I will not watch your teaser release. When you release the whole show, I'll watch that.

Let me also say, thank you, thank you so much, for your generous gift of truly wonderful quality Trek to the greater Trek community. It goes beyond my ability to express in words how uplifting the gift of this quality Trek has been to me, and I'm sure, to thousands of others who love and miss having fresh Star Trek.

It looked to me like it reused a lot of the teaser for part one was reused.

If you were paying to make it, you'd probably take shortcuts like that, too. ;)

I think you're right that much of the trailer for Part 1 was reused for this recap. (I mean, if you're going to use these scenes from the "here's what you'll see in the next episode" trailer, then you could probably use the very same scenes for the "here's what you saw in the last episode" recap.) Nevertheless, I think the recap could be better. We've been so focused on making the episode itself as good as we can, I think we probably didn't give as much thought to the recap piece as we could have or should have.

Of course, if the disjointedness of the recap is the biggest complaint we get on Part 2, I'll be a real happy Producer.

(And did you see me among the Copernicus survivors in my screen debut? I'm the guy who looks like Tor Johnson.)

Glad to hear that the 2 men in bed together was taken out of context...I was beginning to wonder where in the world Trek was going. Not able to see anything streamed so I'll wait until Part 2 is released for download and then download both parts.

^ The two men in bed are lovers.

I thought the opening teaser was pretty good. Can't wait to see the rest.

And in three, two, one...

2 men lovers in a Star Trek film? I'm going to bite my tongue and get out of this conversation..not going to go there for fear I'll say something I shouldn't..

Greg, I wasn't accusing you guys of being cheap or anything. In fact I think you guys have gone above and beyond to provide the best fan trek you can.

My point about the reuse of the part 1 teaser in the recap was to answer the comments about it containing unimportant or out of context scenes. It was designed to sell part one, which it did well mind you. The problem is that a teaser is designed from the start (when done properly) so as to elicit curiosity and a desire to see a project without giving away the story or specific important details.

A recap does the exact opposite, it imparts the important details in as short a span of time it can, which relate specifically to the main story elements of part two.

I understand why you guys did it, and why it was probably the last thing on your minds on the project. I was just making an observation as an attempt to point to the answer of why the "last time on star trek" segment felt, off.

Now, in my opinion, you only really needed to recall four story points. One, the ship is hurt in the fight with the klingons. Two, Kirk has a nephew. Three Kirk's nephew is engaged to the science guy. Four, elements of the crew, including kirks nephew, are stuck on the Cap with the bloodworms.

And If this is the only thing we can nit-pick about, I agree that it's a great thing... But knowing trek fans, it will be nitted to death. ;)

please do, the thread for part one was rather, heated.

it ended up getting locked. as will this one should anyone start bashing same sex marriage. this is a fan film thread not a god versus gays thread.

Looks great so far. Can't wait to seemore once the 20th comes around and the conclusion too. Like the sudden appearence of Yar at the end of it too. Great job.
