Oh, we are definately talking about an election. With money.

Using your logic, according to the Box Office, this film wins and you lose.

Not quite. Unless you think that in an election, the voters themselves lose when the guy they voted for is not elected.
Sure it does. You said something to the effect of people voting with their wallets, and millions of people saw and enjoyed this film. They win. And the studio will make more as long as people are spending money to go see it, as they do with successful film franchises.. The math on this is only hard on people who refuse to accept the reality if it.

You're pissy because you didn't get what you wanted so you try to rain on everyone's parade and never shut up about it, pushing everyone's buttons and provoking people with outrageous assertions, accusations and deflections.

Wow, you really have an issue with me, haven't you? :wtf:

Relax, dude, it's just a discussion forum. It's meant for people to discuss things.

And the fun thing is, that - in this poll - First Contact wins. So I win. Woohoo! I am sooo proud of myself to be a fan of First Contact now. And anybody who dislikes it needs to go to hell, because I have a personal issue with each of them.

Ridiculous question. This year's excellent, exhilarating rebirth of Star Trek versus an overrated television-scale production that wants to tell two separate stories at once and fails to do either justice?

Not that ridiculous considering the voting so far.

If your level of [...] fandom is such that it doesn't allow you to enjoy First Contact, then your level of fandom isn't doing you or "Star Trek" any good.

It has been a long time since I've seen First Contact and I really like XI, but I had to say "Like both equally" because they both made star trek feel new and fresh again. Both got me re-interested in trek after it was getting old and monotonous. I remember watching First Contact many, many times at home and it never got old. I'm sure I'll do the same with XI.

Star Trek (2009). I was very impressed with this film. OK, not everything made sense, but the story was exciting and it had good pacing, set pieces, music and of course, classic characters. I get why some fans don't like it, but for me it's done a pretty good job of making Star Trek relevant and appealing again. First Contact is a film with some excellent scenes and a truly superb score, but I felt that the overall story was bit lacking. The threat level seemed to decline steadily as the film went on.

Jesus. People need to let go of their issues. We're discussing films. Films??? About fictional people, in fictional environments. Not the next messiah. Jeez

Get over it. People have different opinions. Just because you don't agree does NOT make them any less valid. Good god. Many of you shove your opinions around here as if they were fact. Are you all really that deluded?

I prefered First Contact, but that probably stems from my love of TNG. But XI to me was awesome! Rejuvinated my love for Star Trek.

BTW, you do all realise that Star Trek is not real right?

Au contraire, monsieur! It was your love of First Contact that made TPTB think that every ST film should be phaser-rifle-totin', space-'splosion stuff that might just as well ignore all things that had been established about the characters inhabiting it... thus leading to Nemesis and ST's near-death.

On the other hand, I might as well be thankful for that because that's what brought the good Star Trek back this year...

And I thought Star Trek 09 was the embodiment of "phaser-rifle-totin', space-'splosion stuff that might just as well ignore all things that had been established about the characters inhabiting it". It was a version of Nemesis with faster editing, less talk and shaky cam.

Yeah, whatever. I thought "Star Trek" might seriously be worthy of the new title of best of the series until Spock mindmelded with Young Kirk and the whole movie went to crap as the awfulness of the villain's backstory came to light. That was the point when I knew, "this is pretty good, but there's no way it's going to come close to the quality of "The Wrath of Khan" or "First Contact" by the end. Great character stuff and entertaining action, but the story was much messier, stupider, and more contrived than that of "Star Trek: First Contact".

We had the poll for what most consider the best TOS movie vs Star Trek XI so I thought it would be interesting to see how what most consider the best TNG movie does against Star Trek XI in a poll. First Contact Vs. Star Trek XI who will win? Let the Voting Begin:

The fact that XI doesn't appeal to the majority of the fanbase is a GOOOOOD thing. It is exactly what Paramount wanted. I have a feeling if you gave that poll to non-trek fans, the number would be inverted.

Whether or not TREK fans like a new TREK movie is hardly important anymore; and that is a good thing. There is no box-office when making stupid movies (Insurrection/Nemesis) that only a fanbase will like.

As for FC? We just watched our BLURAY print this weekend. It is a very good print. But the movie? My wife and kids were sitting there utterly bored to tears after the battle. There's way to much talking in that movie, and very little FX the rest of the way. No action either. It comes off like a two-hour episode trying to cut corners for the budget (which is, of course, what they did)

XI is a movie; FC is a two-hour episode. And Joe Q public can tell difference.

So it's a two hour episode because it's slow and has no action? :wtf:

That is utterly ridiculous. Paramount is a business. Businesses want money, lots and lots of money. Therefore, in order to make as much money as possible, they want (though they realize this may not be possible) every fan to love the new movie, and they want Star Wars fans to like this movie, they want people who generally hate SciFi to go see this movie, and everyone else in between all of the above. You don't make money by pissing people off. Pissed off people not only refuse to spend their own money, but go out of their way to tell others not to spend theirs as well.
