The ONLY thing I hated about STXI (please explain)

Besides, I don't think kids should be totally shielded from any mention of sex. I learned about human sexuality when I was in grade school.

Something that most North Americans should be learning-it would cut down on teen pregnancy and rampant STD's, and would help teens to have a more secure footing when they say 'Yes' or 'No' to a sexual offer:vulcan:
Whne do they teach it these days? My first class was in grade school as well. And that was in Texas during the 1960s.

More of a South African Pinotage person myself, but cabernet is great, too! :p

I HATED that about ST XI! No Pinotage!

And there you have it! :D

^ :lol: Way to stay on topic, there, CR. Now if I could just think of an excuse...but I'm too mellow.

Guiness = pancake syrup.

More pancake syrup for future ST! :D I know, I'm brilliant. It's a gift. :p

I'll try pouring Guiness on my pancakes next time.

Hey, what about Bavarian beer? That's really good. Everything about Bavaria is cool.

The amount of blood shown in ST XI was a big step toward making it looking real, at least compared to the fights we got up until then.

I dunno. Archer seemed to get his ass handed to him on a regular basis. And while he wasn't spitting blood everywhere, the makeup department did a pretty good job of making him look like a punching bag. Although, from what was mentioned on the ENT DVD special features, this was on the request of Bakula to really make it look good.

^Parental Guidance? (scratches head, shrugs, wanders off, takes non-existent kids to see Alien)

:)

Haha. This gave me a good chuckle.

The closest I got to that was some german "Celebrator" beer which I found was actually better once it'd been poured into a glass and allowed to sit for a while. It smelled like bread and actually tasted pretty good. I still like Heineken and Guinness better, though. :D

My ex was Bavarian; he said for tax purposes the government lumped beer in with food instead of beverage. It was liquid bread, and they could send their kids to the store to buy it.

Guiness = pancake syrup.

Oh. I see. So, on the subject of bar fights, you wanna step outside and say that, cupcake? :klingon: ;) :p
I'm a woman; we practice subterfuge. I'll just poison your pancake syrup.

They have this beer in Bavaria called Hefeweizen. It does sort of smell like bread, but it's gorgeous, I love it.

Oh, and about the fights thing: I was thinking more of DS9 when I posted that. Amazing how many punches people can take to the face and not break a single bone, so much as chip a tooth or spit any blood.

Sure, it was tv, but still, they could have bloodied it up just a tad more imo.

There is only ONE thing I hated about this movie. And I hated it with a passion and would erase it from my dvd if I could.

Uhura: "I thought you were a dumb hick who only had sex with farm animals."

I HATE THIS LINE. It is crass, vulgar, jarring.. and frankly I don't get why she said it. I just don't get it. Since when did being a dumb hick equate to bestiality? As a put down it doesn't make much sense, as repartee it's a huge failure. Now as a put down I get that it says, "you can't get women, specifically ME" but I think there would be much better ways to say it.

Now.. it has occurred to me that I'm just not getting something about this line, that everyone else is sitting there having a chuckle and I'm missing the boat. This is not a "what did you hate about STXI" thread, it is a please comment on this line thread.

Relax, it was a JOKE, cupcake... :rolleyes:

:angel:

Star Trek was rated PG-13. That means parents who decide to take children under 13 to see it should expect to give Parental Guidance concerning questionable material or not take them at all.

Exactly.

I didn't care for my 13 year old to hear that. That's just a completely unnecessary line for a Trek film. If this was truly a film aimed at adults, why would they be marketing to kids even younger than 13? Look at all of the action figures and toys. Many of them are aimed directly at 8-12 year old boys. I'm not talking about the collectables that adults buy.

I remember years ago when Saturday Night Fever came out and was a huge hit, it was rereleased toned down so that teens could go see it and enjoy the film. I know, I know: I'm dating myself here, but I would really like to see that become a regular thing for Trek films: release at the same time to theatres a PG and a PG-13 or even R version. Then, when it is released on disc, both versions would be included. The director would film dual scenes when necessary and he woul approve the edited version so that his vision is left intact. I think that's what was done for some scenes of the Sopranos so that it could be sold into sindication. The PG version would also be the version that would be aired on broadcast TV and perhaps on cable/sat for some showings.

I didn't feel like it was aimed at adults even once. Teenagers and even kids can (imo) handle everything in ST XI. They can handle death, a little blood, and people kissing. Of course, that's just what I think and not an absolute truth.... it's just that I'm truly surprised that people were actually honestly bothered by those things pointed out.
