I keep hearing that the BluRay version will have a ton of stuff that won't be even in the deluxe multi-disc DVD version...sounds like a ham handed attempt to force us to convert up to Blu Ray...

It's dirty business to deny product to your customer based on format. It would cost them NOTHING to put it on the dvds, since they are being made anyways.

Bwahahahahahahaha! Bow before Zod!
Sorry, couldn't resist. The others are probably right about it being a matter of room more than just trying to pressure people into switching over to BluRay. The first regular DVD tends to be the bare-bones version for people who just have to have it right away. Then later on they'll come out with a multi-disc "special edition" that will have a lot of special features. I imagine that will be the case here, too, with the extra special features ending up on additional disks.

And where was your complaining when DVDs were being released (and still are) with minimal special features with the intent of releasing a special edition later on?

I'm not sure there's going to be a double dip, especially for the DVD version. The studios are focusing all their energy on BD and 3D-BD, which will be coming out in 2010, especially because DVD sales are declining while BD is increasing.
I just want to know why Blu-Ray is being abbreviated as BD.
I don't know why fans get so angry about reissues, and brand them as "double dipping".
The shops demand new product. Customers also demand new product. The shops eventually put all their old, dusty releases onto bargain tables to make room for new product and, if we want Star Trek to continue to maintain a viable presence in DVD shops over the next few decades, then CBS and Paramount must keep issuing slightly tweaked, improved versions of the ST backlist, even if it's only cover revamps, extra bonus scenes, new commentaries, or newly-added features.
Seems to me, some fans want one release only - ever - which the shops will definitely tire of stocking, until the franchise's sales dwindle.
I just posted on the other release thread after having seen the listings of what's on each version and I'm more pissed now than when I first posted this thread: the only way to get the GOOD extras (production design galleries, etc) is the Blu Ray.
Paramount has always charged too much and delivered too little, but this is stupid!

Plus there are people who might only want a bare-bones version anyway. But really I see nothing wrong with them getting a DVD out as soon as possible in order to make some money on it. Then they have some time to work on the special features more and they can release a better version later, which is the version I usually end up getting because I'm patient enough to wait. I'm even patient enough to wait for the price to drop on the expanded version. Not that I'll be getting this movie or anything.I don't know why fans get so angry about reissues, and brand them as "double dipping".
