Googling aroud I discovered that the old church at Vili-Robau dates from the 10th Century and Robau is derived from a German word ‘Hrotbaldi’ or ‘Rodebalb’. The name might date back to the Visigoths a Germanic tribe who ruled the Iberian penninsula from the5th to the 7th Century. Many place and family names in Iberia have Visogothic origins.

...The village itself seems to have occupied that spot for a very long time, and would have seen Romans, Huns, various hordes of Germanic barbarians and other groups trooping through or staying for a while, over the centuries.

That sounds about right; even the name "Richard" is Norman, not strictly French. There must be a feature in the village to deserve its longevity, like a river crossing or confluence. And if you can't find it online, I'm confident it's pretty much non-findable online.

The village is in fact next to the river Fluvià (see map in my link below)

Great stuff! The bridge was the feature then. There are 65 residents of the village, and all the Robaus went forth into Latin America and thence the galaxy from there. Here is the current church, the only picture at wiki. Great little article; thanks!

Just as an aside, the article calls the village Villareal Robau, meaning it was a "royal town." Here's a definition:

Villarreal is a combination of the two Spanish words villa, meaning town, and real, meaning royal. Thus, Villarreal means royal town in Spanish. Several towns in Spain have this name, and probably signify that a King kept a royal residence there.

So fitting for Captain Robau.
