What's Your Name?

I almost moved to Schenectady for a job in the early 80s. I turned it down, though, because they weren't giving me enough time to find a place to live, and the money wasn't that great. But in an Alternate Universe, Flukie and I are neighbors!

Those Native American names can be tricky to pronouce...
I know what you mean. Like that state where Boston is. What is it? Just looks like a bunch of random letters to me.

Taxachusetts? ;)

Hi, I'm Don and I'm an alcoholic.

I wasn't supposed to say that was I??? :(

No you're good. As long as you don't give your last name...and hello Don...welcome to the meeting. Coffee is over to the left and chain smoking is done right out back. Afterwards we usually go to Finney's down the street and have a beer.

Wait, I'm not supposed to give out my full name, did I? Thought that it would be more proper if people acknowledged my full name.

^ It's Skuh-NECK-tah-dee, Trampledamage.

It's only easy to pronounce, Cakes, if you know how it's pronounced. I mean, in Indiana, we have a town called Loogootee. Nobody knows how to pronounce it except for those who know how to pronounce it, and for them, it's easy.

^ yep. We have a little thing here for folks new to the city when they ask that.

Skin *pinches skin* Neck *pinches neck* Titty *pinches... well you know* :D

RJ, you would've hated it here in the 80s, it's much, much better now.

Flukie, wonders how the folks in Skaneateles feel

Yeah, the places I saw were all pretty run down. It didn't fill me with confidence.

I was hoping for something a little more exotic than Schenectady...everybody knows Schenectady...Or maybe I think everybody knows it because I'm from NY. (?)

Those Native American names can be tricky to pronouce...NYS is littered with them...I wonder why????

I think Schuylkill is a bit trickier (at least to spell, maybe not pronounce). IIRC, that's actually dutch, not Iroquoian/Algonquin.

It's Dutch, but it's not pronounced by the locals in quite the same way a Dutchman would, methinks.

Skoo-Kill. Maybe a very light L to make it school-kill - not always easy to tell.

Aw, I was hoping it was "Sky Kill." Like Schuylerville.

Pows-kee-pee

heard that one on TV or in the movies...
Actually, it should be something like Poh-kippsy.

The Grape Pumpkin's got it.

No. It's spelled "Poh-kippsy" but it's actually pronounced "Throatwarbler Mangrove".:)
