I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my Alienware Laptop. It was easy to install. The installation went much better and smoother than Windows Vista. All devices loaded properly. Programs load and quit faster. Windows seems quicker overall. What are your opinions on the new Microsoft OS?

P.S. That still doesn't change my mind that Bill Gates is the Antichrist.

I've been enjoying Win7 since the RC came out, works great. I haven't even upgraded to RTM yet.

Well I got an OEM copy from an associate and it loaded and activated just fine. I am pleased with Windows 7 so far.

P.S. Steve Ballmer is one of Bill Gates demonic minions.

^^ Funny story -- no one is forcing you to run Windows. So I see all of this Bill Gates hatred as ridiculous.

For the record, I have a Mac. I switched to it earlier this year after ages of disgust with Windows. I am in a much happier place now.

Windows 7 easily beats Snow Leopard this year. I've never seen a faster operating system, and I'm using OS X 10.5 on a very suped-up laptop.

I think Microsoft is waking up and realizing that Apple is gaining on them with all these innovations.

Lol, I was just about to post about how awesome and fast it was when it suddenly started going super slow. I figured I must have cursed myself some how. But it turned out one of the old hard drives connected has died. Not sure why that would cause the problem but it went away as soon as I disconnected it. I hope it's not dead since I didn't finish transfering files off of it yet.

Aside from that, the installation was faster than some games I've installed recently. I'm glad to finally be using all 64 bits of all four processor cores, and being able to access all my ram. I already knew it was going to be fast from the betas and the various release candidates. I'm happy to finally have a modern operating system.

So far, I can't tell much speed-wise between Windows 7 and Vista. Windows has lots of nice features for me to get acquainted with.

Not really. He's a marketing genius and was strong-armed into philanthropy.

Strong-armed by who, exactly? It seems more likely that he's decided to expend his excess wealth into a rather nice way of cleaning up his public image after plenty of scandal.

Way, way, waaaaaayyyy back in the early 1990's (pretty much 1990) I was stationed in the Seattle area. Not surprisingly, the Seattle paper would have a minimum of one Bill Gates/Microsoft article in the business section every day. I would read them out of curiosity and because my interest in business-related news was coming to light. I gleaned from my readings that Bill Gates didn't like people telling him how to manage his company, the Government trying to prove MS was a monopoly, and people being jealous of his wealth. A lot of tech companies, back in the day, wanted to do what they did best -- innovate and make money. They didn't want to play the game of giving money to Political Action Committees, charity, etc. They wanted NO part of politics. Gates was eventually *encouraged* to understand that he would have to "pay to play" if he wanted the Government and jealous nosy-bodies out of his business. That's why he started his philanthropic endeavors and campaign contributions.

So yes, he was strong-armed.

I don't buy into your quid-pro-quo theory. The (United States) Government's investigations into Microsoft didn't end because of philanthropic endeavors or political contributions. It ended because the White House (and the justice department) changed hands from Bill Clinton to George W. Bush. Bush was heavily pro-business, Clinton was much more pro-regulation.

From what I've read in the Seattle papers (or, rather, paper these days ) Gates' philanthropy is not a cynical ploy to evade government intervention into his business dealings. It's a cynical ploy to recover his historical image and legacy after a decade of scandal and investigations. But in the final analysis what matters most is not his motivation for doing good in the world--it's that he's doing good. And a lot of it these days.
