Deep Space Nine did this, as well. Also you'd get a logog following the opening credits ("brought to you by") and one at the end - two if they did one before previews. They were a real staple of pre-80's TV.

I've always loved seeing different edits of films and TV shows, whether it's Blade Runner, Superman II, the Alien movies
It's down to the individual to decide which is better...
So long as both versions co-exist. The more time passes, the more it doesn't matter.
Just came across this.

the differences between the unaired and aired versions
Length: 9:51
The purpose of this video is to highlight differences between versions.
We'll see if the unaired 2nd pilot looks like this on the Blu-ray.
I'd like to see David Rappaport's version of Kivas Fajo in "The Most Toys."Are there deleted scenes from TNG, VOY, and DS9 episodes we'd like to see?
This item will be released on Dec 15, 2009.
the alternate version of the series' second pilot film, "Where No Man Has Gone Before", newly discovered
CBS/PARAMOUNT HOME ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE RESTORED VERSION OF ALTERNATE "STAR TREK" PILOT ON BLU-RAYa German film collector acquired a 35-millimeter print some years back and brought it to the attention of CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. The print itself was transferred to HD video by Magic Picture Home Entertainment Gmbh and was transported in September 2009 to the United States. Upon arrival, the digital restoration department at CBS Home Entertainment spent many hours color-correcting the video and cleaning the film, frame by frame, of all dirt to present the best possible picture quality deserving of a Blu-ray release.
I just noticed on Amazon.com they have all 3 seasons of TOS on Blu-ray as a package.
Star Trek: The Original Series - Seasons 1-3 [Blu-ray]
Price: $175.99
That is $58.66/seasonThis item will be released on Dec 15, 2009.
I wonder if it will come down in July or December 2010 to around $120. for those Trek fans waiting for a good Blu-ray price...
the extended version of "The Cage;" black and white elements understandably feature plenty of wear and tear, but the color footage is positively gorgeous, practically clean as a whistle and wonderfully detailed.
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Star-Trek-The-Original-Series-Season-3-Blu-ray-Review/7192/With the inclusion of no less than three versions of "The Cage" and a never-before-seen variation on "Where No Man Has Gone Before," it's easy to proclaim this set a must-own for any true "Star Trek" enthusiast.
DISC SIX - Episodes:
The Cage,
The Cage (Extended Version) and
Where No Man Has Gone Before (Unaired, Alternate Version).
On Season 2 the disc that has Trouble with Tribbles, they do have the episode from The Animaited Series More Tribbles More Troubles on it as well an episode from DS9 too. I have watched the whole dvd set expepet for the special features. Anyways I cant wait for season 3 which is only a week away. I like to see my other favorite episodes on there as well watch the others I havent seen in long time.I wonder if they will release a blu ray collection of the Animaited Series. I think they should, since it is part of TOS crew.
I haven't opened my TOS S2 set yet, although if "More Tribbles, More Troubles" is indeed in HD, then that might be possible.
I also like to see blu ray versions of TNG series as well.
That, OTOH, will NOT be possible. Not without redoing all the editing and effects (which were done on videotape) from scratch.
The next Trek series to come out on Blu-Ray will probably be Enterprise, which was made from the get-go to be airable in HD.
