What's Your Name?

I've not only revealed my full name on this board, but also my home address and telephone number. So far nothing has happened.

"Dodgeson! Dodgeson! We've got Dodgeson here!"
I would never reveal my whole name on here.

(It's Matthew Gordon Chomiak.)

According to some people my name is "Matt".

I've had this happen to often that I must not be speaking clearly enough when I introduce myself, but the names sound so different that it doesn't make sense.

"Hi, my name is Ben."
"Nice to meet you Matt"

I'm Matthew, but I have gotten "Mark" or "Michael" about 50% of the time in my life. Mark is easy to see because it is my older brother's name, but I don't know where people get Michael from.

I applaud those who have the guts to reveal their full names here. I don't think I could do that. Not only because of the whole Internet privacy thing, but because my own last name is so hopelessly convoluted that I would seriously consider taking my wife's last name if I should be lucky enough to ever get that far in a relationship. :p

All right! Beer and incest porn at Juan Bolio's house tonight!:drool:

I hate it when people call me Mark...my name is Matt(Matthew)...I think one time I was called Mack(?).

Kisu. If you do a google image search you end up with cute animals, anime people kissing and fish. So you you can giggle at kittens staring at either fish or people making out. it all makes sense!~

If only I could get Kay Parker and Honey Wilder to come....

My last name causes me my share of trouble too. I like it, it's Isbell, pronounced like the two words 'is' and 'bell'. I think it sounds pretty with my full name: Hannah Beth Isbell.
It does have a nice ring to it.
Thanks. :)
Say, I knew I liked you for a reason. ;)

(Are we the only two?)

I wondered if there had been some processing involved in the vid. Not so, apparently -- yours is definitely deeper than mine - true basso, rather than bass-baritone.

Yeah. Wow.
It's very sexy.

Seconded. :)

The problem I have with my last name is that no one knows how to pronounce it until I tell them. This proves quite amusing in the pharmacy and other such places :p
My last name gets mispronounced all the time as well.

It is Masson.

Everyone pronounces it "Mason".

It is pronounced exactly as it is spelled:
MASS - ON
not
MAY - SIN
:p

Hehehe! Do people spell it wrong too? Mine is a tad more complicated as it's actually polish (I'm part polish) It's:

Marczynka but the C is silent which people don't tend to know and I end up with all sorts of variations :p

I get that a lot too. Mine is Aiello, which is pronounced just like it's spelled except the A is silent, so the i is long. And most people want to put most of the emphasis on the A.

Nope. I'm also a Jonathan.

My most common nickname is Jono. Also had Jon, Jonny, J-Dog, J Lo, Nelly, Tank, Raptus, Chocolate Bear (taken from Scrubs), and other random ones.

My use to having my last name mispronounced and misspelt but its my first name that I get annoyed about. I'd had it misspelt more then correctly spelt. Sometimes it doesn't matter if I spell it for them, it comes back with an extra "h" or an "on" at the end. I even had my bank a couple of years back decide to change the spelling of my name on my reissue of their cards and I was not impressed.

I strongly suspect my last name sounds like something very funny or very profane in some Chinese languages, because I have troubles getting a reservation in some Chinese restaurants, and I often get the "are you fucking kidding me?" silence when I tell them.

On the other hand, I know my last name sounds like something very funny and very profane in Spanish. Yeah, I'm lucky like that. :shifty:

Yeah, the C in my name (Chomiak) is the same. Most people pronounce it "Cho-my-ack," some "Cho-mi-ack," and a few "Ko-mi-ack." Usually the only people that get it right the first time are those that recognize it as being Polish or Ukrainian and know the "Ch" is pronounced like an "H" (or, if you want to get technical, it's more that kind of throat-clearing sound...)

I get the name from Ukrainian ancestry, but the name is common in Poland too. Not that there's really a difference between the two countries. We Ukrainians need three people to change a lightbulb too.

My name is Malte. pronounce it "Mulltay", stress the first syllable, make the second syllabe very short. Might sound weird to you, but that's it. Clearly not an English name. ;-)
