Well, to be fair, he insulted Linux too. I think he's just a curmudgeon.

I will hear nothing bad said against Charlie Brooker.Oooh look how 'edgy' I am! I insulted Windows AND Macs. Guy must be a Linux geek.![]()
He's just a little (very) cynical.I'd tell you to go 64 bit, but that's because I want everyone to go 64 bit in order to push that platform. I don't care if it doesn't work for you, go 64 bit.Hmmm. If I were to upgrade, should I stick with good old 32 bits, or should I push the boat out further and go for x64?

I like Apple, I really do, but I just think they're shooting themselves in the foot on this one.

Most of my hardware is 2008 or newer, and Vista tells me the computer is 64-bit ready too, according to the Experience Index, so I think I could be in luck there. I am tempted by the x64 option, if only to finally make good use of that extra Gb of RAM sitting around doing nothing. Whether it will run Civ 4, though...I'd tell you to go 64 bit, but that's because I want everyone to go 64 bit in order to push that platform. I don't care if it doesn't work for you, go 64 bit.Hmmm. I've been using the 64 bit RC as my primary OS for months and almost everything works for me, all the drivers are working and it has excellent compatibility for 32 bit software. The only thing that didn't work was the driver for my 4 year old phone, but I booted up XP mode and tried it in there and it worked a charm. If your hardware is around 2 years old it will probably have 64 bit drivers available, any older and you might have trouble.
When I first installed it there was a problem where the game would pause and go black for a few seconds every couple of minutes, but a driver update fixed that a few months back. I suppose it depends on your graphics card and how good the x64 drivers are for it.Ok, I promise to quit Mac-jacking the Windows thread now.

... and, at work, XP suits me just fine. Vista is also a passable operating system after its last service package and a few configurations. Considering that Microsoft likes to beta test on its customers, I never get excited about "new" products like this one.Is it me or are the Mac ads getting vicious. Like before it was funny and ha ha. Now it is like they have ran out of material and are practically saying Windows SUXsss!!!
I've felt like that since the early days of the "Get a Mac" campaign, some of the first ads talked about the positive features of Macs, but they quickly devolved into insulting PCs. Plus, I like John Hodgman and think that the Mac guy looks like a heroin addict, so the ads have the opposite effect on me.I can't say I care much. Four months in the beta and five months in the RC and I didn't encounter one, so it is amazing that it happened right after installing the finished product. To be fair to MS it seems to have been a recurring issue with my HDD so it's not their fault, and once I jiggered about with the innards and turned it back on it booted up with no problems. That was a relief because when this problem happened to me on Vista it corrupted the OS and I had to reinstall it three times.^
Pretty much and things like OMG you need to back up to go from XP to 7. Like XP is a 8 year old OS. Whatever happened to taking the high road with Mac.
And it is wierd that MS, seems to be trying to go with whole geek culture by promoting Felicia Day.
Whose buying it today? Shops open in 17 minutes as I type this so might go down and see what kind of mad-ass display our local retailer has set up.

My brother works for Microsoft, so he is getting a copy for me and a copy for my parents. I told him no rush on shipping it, though.
Now I just gotta figure how to save all my mom and dad's e-mails from Windows Mail and transfer them over to Windows Live Mail.
