2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Halloween.

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

I wasn't sorry I tuned in. It was pretty entertaining.

I was surprised at some of the gore in the second segment, particularly the shot where they ran over Moleman's head and his brain squished out. That was probably the goriest thing I've seen on the show. I wonder if they could have gotten away with that a few years ago.

The weird thing in regards to this show and musical numbers- it's like for a few years they just gave them up altogether. Then they remembered how funny they used to be so started including them again. But, none of the recent ones have been very good for some reason. This was more of the same. I was kind of happy to see them try to do a musical number, but it was ultimately disappointing.

Christopher, I don't know what you mean by the episode being too gory.

That's actually the opposite of what I said. I said that I found it "refreshingly light in the gore department" compared to previous ToH installments -- the second segment being the exception. Generally, I liked it that most of the segments avoided gore and spatter and gross-out in favor of gentler approaches to "scary" stories -- classic Universal movie monsters, Alfred Hitchcock, a stage musical with the limited violence and gore being clearly faked (except for Moe's hair catching fire on the stage lights). (Actually the Hitchcock segment had a lot more graphic violence than a real Hitchcock film would've had, what with the severed heads and all, but at least it was in black & white.)

^ I thought that was in reference to the opening bit, which is what you were discussing when you said that.

In regards to the some of the other segments, you mentioned you felt that things were "icky", "crass", and "gory" which suggested to me that you found things to be "icky", "crass", and "gory", something I didn't necessarily agree with.

Well, I should've been more clear, then. Hopefully my previous post clarifies my position.

The Simpsons ended in 1998. What we have now is a reanimated hideous abomination.

Actually in the last year or so it's been improving. It's still below its peak, but it's no longer at its nadir.

I hope so. Although that does mean I can easily skip past seasons 12-20 and save some money on the DVDs.
