Ah, a kindred spirit.

Perhaps motivated by own faulty memory, and a conviction that a widely-praised film must be enjoyable on some level, I tried re-watching 2001 last week. I turned it off about the time Poole and company were flying out to TMA-1.

Do yourself a favor... read the book, instead of watching the movie.

The book is far better, IMHO. And you can enjoy it while entirely sober, too!

I have. Beleive me, I wouldn't be referring to the site of the lunar monolith as "TMA-1" otherwise, as that term is never used in the movie, being visible only as a caption on the bottom of a couple of the photographs used in the briefing scene.

Agreed. I think it makes a beautiful screen saver When hangin out with friends chatting or playing games.
