What's Your Name?

JuanBolio, I never would have picked you for a Zach - it's a nice name, but I would have imagined you having something more exotic.
Oh, like what? As first names go, Zach isn't terribly common. Actually most of my friends call me by my last name - Krupp.

Kathleen is a nice name. I've always liked most of the variations on Catherine that are out there, or similar names as it were.

My real name is Kommander.

Well, my birth certificate says it's "Matthew," but I'm not weak-willed enough to believe something just because a piece of paper says it's true.
Its true. Whenever we go out, that's how he introduces himself. And at that point the girls who were talking to him start talking to me.

I'm Laura by the way (pronounced like the perfume ;)). Like NCC-1701 I share in the grief of my name being pronounced weirdly internationally (I do it myself when abroad for simplicty's sake).

I'm trying to figure out how certain names that keep popping up are pronounced. I'm assuming you don't pronounce it like the English name. The only other one I know is the Italian pronunciation. If it is neither, I have no clue. Any hint? :)

It's like the Italian pronunciation, but without the r being rolled like in Italian (although I wouldn't mind that ;)).

My best friend is German and got quite tired of people mispronouncing (and spelling) her last name. Last year she got married and happily changed it to Miller.

I'm Lisa, btw. Thought I saw another one somewhere upthread.

I don't know. I think perhaps I have been unduly affected by the "Juan," so without even thinking about it, I kind of imagined something more...Latin than Zach.

I've known quite a few Zachs. It was a pretty popular name a few years back. The "Popular Baby Names" website lists it in the top 20 most popular boys' names for several years in the early 2000s, so you're going to have some company here pretty soon.

I like all of them, too...except the weird spelled ones. I mean, jeez, there are lots of normally spelled variations, and a large variety of possible nicknames, too, so people really should hold off on the weird ones. I went to high school with a girl who insisted her nickname should be spelled "Kathye," I kid you not.

Hi Lisa! :)

My surname often gets mangled even here but I'm holding out. I quite like it and plan to keep it should I ever get married. But it's no good for an international career.

Hi Laura, how you doin'?

By the way, name's Pier. No, it's not pronounced like this, even if I can attest some similarities in design. ;) Think French's Pierre, but less froufrou. :p

Funny thing, people have started to call me Iguana in real life too, which I actually awesome.

What about we call him El Zacho?

I'm Rich, though ever since training I've been 'Jeeves' at work (as in 'Ask...', I was a massive swot in training and had all but memorised the handbook...)

I'd much rather be a Germanicus. Nobody fucks with a Germanicus.

Except for the Germans... ;) And sometimes Germanici fall from horses and die. So maybe Matthew isn't that bad, after all?

It was Drusus who died from falling from the horse. Germanicus was probably poisoned. I think I'd rather be poisoned people, will still talk about my death for a long time then.

Germanicus inherited the name from his father Drusus who received it posthumously, though.
