Finally seen part 3 of "Air" so I thought I'd comment on the pilot overall
Um...
Not bad, but strangely humourless, no doubt as a reaction against SGA's excesses. They've obviously noticed nuBSG's success, and are aping it rather crudely - not just with what passes for darkness and grit in the Gateverse, or even the shagging-in-the-locker-room scene, but when characters start having visions of religious imagery and priests telling them "He has a *Plan*" I really want to throw something at the TV.
Cos nuBSG was nuBSG, and this isn't, so it shouldnt' try to be. If I wanted to watch BSG tonight I'd have put the DVD in the player.
The wife reckons it's a cross between BSG and Quantum Leap, on account of the face-swapping communication-with Earth thing. Speaking of which, not only is that confusing, but the teen-girl's domestic thing with her mother was fucking boring. I mean bring-back-Jackie-Tyler boring. And I fucking hate the Rose/Jackie thing.
None of the characters much grab me yet- but Robert Carlyle's good, and the gamer-nerd guy is surprisingly OK.
I can't help feeling that there are too many characters, but can hope that this is so that it can be less safe and predictable, and they can kill some of them off. So I'll give it a go for a few more episodes and see how it goes, but so far it's a case of if I happen to lose track of it, I won't lose any sleep over it.
