It isn't enough for them to love their show--they have to put down Voyager for some reason. And they seem compelled to come here to do it.

I wonder if the DS9 forum is plagued with disgruntled Voyager fans? I've never read a single thread there, but maybe I should go over and troll a bit! After all, turn about is fair play! (Just kidding, KimC  ).

 Alternately, we just enjoy screwing with TheGhoulBen's poll and being goofy, and it has nothing to do with putting down Voyager. Voyager's not my favourite Trek (hence identifying as a Niner) but I'm glad this poll was put up and wanted to show my support for it. If you actually did go over and check the Niner version of this poll, you'd notice that positive Voyager sentiment outweighs negative sentiment by a 2-1 ratio at this point. Add in the "neutral" option ("Voyager was okay, I have no strong feelings") and you've got roughly (shy by one vote) a 3-1 ratio in favor of or neutral towards Voyager.

Looks to me like for the most part, post-TNG-Trek fans are pretty happy with one another's shows. :techman:

I did go over, Kestrel, and was pleasantly surprised with the vote so far. Let's hope that we can live and let live, as they say. :)

I like DS9, although I have to admit that I haven't watched the whole series due to stupid policies by the station where I live which aired the series.

The series was OK but not as good as TNG and Voyager.

Why is it our own poking fun of ourselves by offering that option (heck, even allowing people to have a shot at us in good fun) was taken as a life-or-death matter when we reversed the poll? :(

It's not life-or-death, but in the DS9 topic most of the posts have at least answered the questions asked by the OP. Here most posts dodge the question and just make fun of the whole thing, like it's a topic not worthy of real posting. A waste of time if you're looking for real answers to your questions.
Well you shouldn't blame the Niners fo the lack of VOY fans in this thread, should you? The question is, where are all the VOY fans to vote in this poll?

Unless you believe it's our fault because we killed them all and buried them in our back gardens. :rommie:

Actually, I think it is brilliant to give the voters a "screw with the percentages" option! :techman: From the very beginning, Voyager has been the target of DS9 fans, and I've never really understood why that is. The large number of votes in that category reveals just how much some fans (usually DS9 fans) still enjoy screwing with Voyager. It isn't enough for them to love their show--they have to put down Voyager for some reason. And they seem compelled to come here to do it.

The "screw with the percentages" option is there because there is the same option in the opposite poll in the DS9 subforum. The only sens of humor and poking fun of himself and other Niners. But that did not prevent some people here from getting all up and arms about it. :sigh:

So, it seems that are more DS9 fans visiting and reading VOY subforum, than the other way round. And I don't see any of them doing anything that could be described as trolling, while OTOH, Anwar's nearly every post on the DS9 subforum is about how horrible Niners are and how much they are ruining his life by not adoring every episode and character and every single thing about Voyager.

The reason I voted that I am not a Voyager fan is that the OP defines a Voyager fan as someone who likes VOY better then the other shows, which I don't. I think many people who voted like Voyager, but not enough to call it their favourite. I highly doubt people actively come here to screw with the percentages.

Ghoul, nearly everyone has voted just to mess with the percentages. This whole thing is a waste, too many Niners just coming here to screw with us (which is just the continuation of the last 14 years...).
The "screw with the percentages" option was included as a joke because I know that most people on this board have a sense of humour and would find it funny, which 13 people apparently did. :) Besides, it also gives us an important figure; the number of people who visit the Voyager forum who don't consider Voyager to be their favourite show, which is apparently much larger than the number of non-Niners who visit the DS9 forum.

Unless you believe it's our fault because we killed them all and buried them in our back gardens. :rommie:
You should bury them in your neighbour's garden instead, just in case the police decide to do a search. That little trick saved my ass on a number of occasions. ;)

While Anwar's claims about Niners and Voyager was the initial reason for me to post these polls, lets not make this personal, lets keep this about the shows. :)

(I'm just covering my ass here. :p)

I voted that I liked DS9 but enjoyed VOY better.

I've been into reading transcripts from both shows lately, and it's clear that DS9 had the better writing team, but when I watch, I jut can't get past the acting in DS9. It felt forced to me. The best actors on DS9 were the secondary/recurring guest characters, which is a good thing, because they were legion. But the main cast .... meh.

VOY had the better main cast and they also had good chemistry together.

Honestly, they're just two very different shows and hard to compare. I do like them both, I just love VOY a bit more. I really cared about the entire crew in a way I struggled to do with DS9.

I must say, it's hard for me to understand how anyone can not see that the last poll option was meant as a joke. Anwar, with posts like these it's getting almost impossible for me to take you seriously.

On another note, like TheGodBen, I find it interesting that the numbers thus far indicate that there actually are more non-Voyager fans visiting this forum than there are Voyager-only fans.

I like both shows but if I have to pick then I prefer Voyager. TBH I think I was more into Babylon 5 back in the day though.

:techman: Far more than that, here's to reconciliation and IDIC!

They don't care about DS9 and thus aren't posting.

It's not ruining my life, just a source of irritation. But after 14 years you just learn to live with perpetual attacks on what you enjoy.

Oh, I knew it was a joke. It's just that (at the time) most of the votes were of that option, making this whole thing a joke by extension.

Especially since, if any Niner wanted to really screw up percentages and the poll itself, they'd vote for option 1 (same thing for VOY fans in the "Niners, how do you feel about Voyager" poll). Who would know? The poll does not have the option of revealing who voted for which option (maybe it would have been better to include it).

That's the way it's always been since I started coming here eight years ago. I came to find out information about Voyager, but the posters despised VOY so much that I didn't come back for six months. It wasn't any better then; I just had to get used to the idea.

Even the moderators were DS-9 fans first. I'm supposing lots of other VOY fans never did come back; certainly some of them PM'd me that they weren't.

A marketing student once did a poll BBS-wide here for a class project, and it turned out that about 60% of the BBS had DS-9 as their favorite show -- and about 40% of those liked no other Trek show, according to that poll several years ago.

This result is not representative of fandom, since media polls have shown that STNG is the most popular Trek show, followed by TOS. A TV Guide poll showed 13% of fans liked DS-9 as their favorite, with VOY and ENT both in single figures.

I read a Discover magazine article that said, among other things, that online sites are not representative but rather associative; people of like minds find each other. So, that's just the way it is around here.

Heh, I remember that poll, or something like that. There did seem to be an overabundance of Niners on the board in the first half of this decade, so much so that it allowed O'Brien to win one of those semi-annual Best Trek Character polls running.

O'Brien!

Great post.

I agree the demographic of fans of certain Trek shows and even characters are a little uneven here. I never understood the bashing Voyager would get here, yet when I used to do the conventions majority seemed to have positive to nutural view of the show. Plus, there are tons of Trek fans that have no interest in message boards not being represented here as well. Voyager like TNG has many casual fans.:)

Indeed. On message boards, however, you are much more likely to run into nerds that have a tendency to scrutinize shows (perhaps too much at times)! Or are more densely populated with them than an average group, at any rate (cons notwithstanding). I am definitely one of those, I think.
