My copy of "Star Trek: A Comics History" by Alan J Porter (Hermes, 2009) just arrived from Amazon. I tried to get my local comic shop to reorder it from Diamond but after its initial batch Diamond refused to order in more, so Amazon is the best source (and a lower price than previously listed, too.)

It's a 192pp large format trade. I wasn't expecting so many full colour plates. Beautiful!

Yeah, Diamond's become a real pain for me when it comes to books. Do you still get the Pocket books through them? They've stopped carrying them completely here in the US.

Diamond's cut way back on books. I used to find the book section of Diamond Previews helpful for reminding me of a lot of neat pop culture books, but now they don't even have a book section -- it's been combined with the magazine section.

I'm fairly sure Galaxy Bookshop's air-freighted batch used to come from Diamond, but the coming of ST XI caused S&S Aust. to ramp up their ordering practices and the local distributor was bringing in air-freighted copies for all Australian bookshops - at sea-freight prices.

Galaxy seems to have made a new arrangement for the current books. So Galaxy gets 'em with the US shops get 'em, then top up from local supplies.

I've been out of the Trek Lit loop since the beginning of the year. Where can i find release dates for the books that came out this year?

And here. If you don't like the default text-only display, click on Table for an alternate view, with covers. (Books dated 2009-12-31 instead of 2009-12 are books that were expected at some point in 2009 but still have no release date, and probably won't be released in 2009.)

My official recommendation is to bookmark ^ this man's website. It is BAD. ASS.

Who, me? Why, thank you. Coming up on the tenth anniversary of the site (near as I can tell, I started it in more or less its current form in December, 1999).

ETA: And in other news, Wil Wheaton just announced at his blog that his first book of TNG reviews, Memories of the Future Volume One, is now available for ordering at lulu.com. Price strikes me as a bit high, but I ordered a copy.

I agree, I have used this site for years. It has been an invaluable source in building my own collection of books. More importantly, the references with cover pictures have been great to feed to my wife and kids who happily buy me books:) I just read a couple of chapters of Will Weaton's book on the Lulu site and had a good chuckle. I'll be ordering that as well.

Does anyone here know if Unworthy has been released in the UK yet?

Simon & Schuster UK traditionally has each novel one or two months after the US. But they are the same printings, they just take longer to arrive by ship. But faster than to Oz.

However, since ST XI, S&S Australia has been importing ST titles by air freight, so our former two-to-three month wait has been shortened to a matter of days.

Trek books get released over here ONE month after they are released in the States, so Unworthy should be out in a week or so.

Well, you know, if I'd said "ONE" instead of "one or two", someone would have said, "It's more like TWO".

I was attempting to anticipate that places like Forbidden Planet might air-freight some copies, in which case new titles could be on UK shelves much earlier.

I read Losing the Peace and liked it. I haven't read the "Destiny" trilogy yet (Bookstore doesn't have them.) so I was shocked/happy that Beverly had married Jean Luc and was pregnant with their child.

Get your bookstore to order them. Walk up to the counter and say "I'd like you to order..." and give the titles. Every bookstore on the face of the Earth does this for free, and you might convince them there's demand to order more.

It blows my mind how many people say "bookstore didn't have it, I guess I can't buy it."

Actually that happened in Greater Than the Sum, the TNG novel that led into Destiny.
