sfdebris reviews TWOK

You didn't watch the review, eh, exodus?

He read and researched Paradise Lost, Moby Dick and Tale of Two Cities before watching Wrath of Khan to see if the people who claimed the movie was influenced by these books were accurate in their assessment.

That's research.

I'm puzzled by the sentiment that it sounds like he's reading off of paper--I think he's got great delivery.

I don't. That's my observation after bearing with his nasal, sing-song recitation of the production history of ST:TWOK.
I agree. I couldn't get very far through it before it became irritating. I think part of the problems is that he liked the movie. I listened to a bit of his TMP review and it was far more entertaining because he was passionate about hating the movie. It didn't come off nearly as stilted.

So in other words, you're just taking issue with me for having a personal opinion because there really isn't any other reason to be harping on this otherwise? Sfdebris is a grown man and can handle criticism or he wouldn't be posting on a public site like Youtube to begin with.

Taking this a bit too seriously, don't you think?

What the devil are you talking about? You asked

What research?
What literary works?

and Kirk1980 answered exactly that.

Perhaps I misunderstood.

However, if other fans hadn't seen the similarities in the film to literature, would sfdebris still have done the research? Lots of Trek is based on literature and he hasn't done such research on other reviews unless prompted too.

I remember he did a lot for "Threshold." Reread Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis," and realized "Threshold" was a modern interpretation of what "Metamorphosis" could have been if it had been absolute garbage and involved a new form of dilithium.

Well, not really.

The reason he did so much for TWOK, as was clearly articulated by SFDebris in the video, was because he felt TWOK got less credit for its intellectualism than TMP did for its intellectualism.
