Should I buy a Candle?

I would agree with some of the folks here advocating a more proactive approach than masking one scent with another one.

I own a large set of candles, and not just to mask smells, but in case I lose power. Up here in the mountains, it can get quite cold and windy in the winter months, and having candles on hand in case power goes out is a smart idea.

Also, my bathrooms in my townhome smelled like pee, I think the smell has melded with the wallpaper (which I am trying to get them to take down and then paint), but in the mean time, I put some scented candles in the bathrooms and let them burn down so that the smell of the candle would meld into the wallpaper.

BTW, for a brief time, a long long time ago, my dad sold scented candles to stores.

I bought a Glade Scented Oil plug-in freshener from Wal-Mart when I had to deal with a musty odor upon moving in, and it worked very nicely.

I don't see any reason not to obtain some candles/air fresheners. Obviously, if there is something in your apartment that is causing a bad smell, you want to get rid of that... but if there isn't anything you can do about it, my personal recommendation is Glade and an open window.

(I've yet to find a scented candle that doesn't smell "artificially sharp")

I had one that smelled like fresh cookies for a while. That was actually quite pleasant.

Although it did get annoying after a while that there weren't any actual fresh cookies around.

 That would make me quite annoyed as well. There's a Yankee Candle that smells just like freshly cut grass. I wonder if that could be used to get out of doing yard work. ;)

Empty your trash and disinfect all food preparation surfaces in your kitchen. That works for me.

I'm also a big fan of Scrubbing Bubbles and bleach in the bathroom. I want those pathogens dead.

Yeah, I just recently bleached all of the slowly darkening areas in my shower. Looks a lot better now.

Indeed. Find out what's stinking and fix it! Covering it up does nothing but put it out of your mind. It doesn't really solve the problem.

I've used some "Clean Shower" spray to keep down on the mildew and algae; just spray it on after each shower and leave it.

I live in an apartment, if you've ever lived in one you know they can easily smell like odd things. The trashcan that's not-yet full but has de-composing food in it, it can smell like the dinner you cooked two nights ago, apartments can just smell... odd.

So I think I need to buy a scented candle or something.

What do you think?

If you have smelly food, take it to the trashcan or dumpster outside.

$2.00 candle purchases shouldn't need to be decided by committee. :p

Dude, you're British, too? I didn't know that.

Cherrio, tut tut and all that rot, old fellow. Tally ho!

Actually, I believe that M lives in Californina.

My advice, buy a Glade Plug-in. Or maybe one of the new motion detecting air fresheners.

While I like scented candles, I prefer to use them to help accent my mood. Even though I have a very dulled sense of smell, for some reason scented candles still have an effect on me. Mint and citrus ones are my favorite. However, for odor removal, I think that Glade, or an other brand of plug-in or self spraying air freshener is the way to go. Don't even have to think about it, because it works by itself. Not that lighting a candle is hard work or anything, but I just prefer not to have to bother with it.

Oh you just reminded me ~ we had a 99p shop in town last year that had the best scented candles... winterberry, chocolate, mistletoe and more *gazes into distance for memory* They were really lovely and were in glass cups, the cups remain but the scent has long since gone :(

Anyway the 99p shop went bust ~ it took on the £1 shop and lost. Big business can be harsh :shifty:
Did someone ruin them with the old "If you say everything's 99p, then I'll buy everything here for 99p" loophole trick? ;)

 darn I wish I'd tried that!

In now deceased shop, I did see one of the best examples of 'tongue-biting, eye-rolling, why the hell did I take this job?' customer service ever ~
Woman customer; 'How much is this?'
Store chap smiles; '99p'
Wc; 'and this?'
Sc, tighter smile; '99p, everythings 99p'
Wc holds something else up...
Sc, reaches for toy gun; '99p. It's all 99p'
Wc to husband; 'Well how are we suppose to know when they don't put any prices on anything?'

:guffaw:

I once had a clerk in a 99 cent store call his manager because he needed a price check on an item I put on the belt. :wtf:

~ does make you wonder if the 'everythings 99p' includes the wages!

The grass one sounds awful but I love cookies and vanilla-type smells. The chocolate ones just irritate me, somehow. If you miss having actual cookies, why not just make some? It's not difficult to whip up a batch of cookies at short notice.
