new K9 footage

I read in the last DWM that John Leeson would be returning to do the voice, which is a plus for anyone who ends up watching this show.

I like this footage better than the first stuff we saw, and i think an audience, similar maybe to the Power Rangers audience, but even if it was on BBC (or any other Freeview channel) I would not be watching it.

In good news the real K9 is in SJA S3, which makes me happy

I'm pretty sure they "borrowed" the music from the Star Trek trailer for this promotional video.

As for the footage itself...I can justify my 20-something self watching The Sarah Jane Adventures, because it's a well made show even if it's meant for a younger audience.

K-9 looks like what SJA could have easily been under less professional or experienced hands. Too bad for K-9. The character deserves better.

Erm, it didn't look that bad to me... kids will love something like that. I don't watch Sarah Jane Adventures (though I will watch the one with the Doctor in), and if I didn't know any better I'd think they were one and the same series from that clip...

A full trailer has now been released:

The only part about it I don't like is I don't care for how K-9's flying/levitating is handled (but considering the logistical problems faced in Doctor Who with having him rolling on the ground, it makes sense).

Having Leeson back as the voice makes it work. Sounds like they've hired a Murray Gold clone to do the music, which is a plus, as well. It looks like it's going to have some pretty good action, and with more than double the episodes of SJA (though roughly the equivalent screen time of DW) they should have more time to develop the stories.

The bias against SJA by some people is yet another aspect of modern Who fandom that continues to puzzle and frankly annoy me. I watched the first season expecting a kiddy show, but it was a lot more mature and well written than I expected, with one episode that was actually necessary for understanding Turn Left in the main series. I haven't seen Season 2 yet but it's got the Brigadier and Sonatrans, for pete's sake. And the third season sounds good as well. Is it as fantastic as DW or as edgy as Torchwood? Of course it isn't because it isn't aimed for that core audience. But it's still got the same quality, and as far a I'm concerned -- to steal a comment made by Katy Perry after Tyler Swift's VMA speech got hijacked -- dissing Sarah Jane and Elisabeth Sladen is like stomping on a kitten! ;)

Folks who are refusing to watch SJA because of second-hand knowledge should put aside their prejudice and give that show a chance. And I think the same should hold true for K-9. Since it's not a BBC Wales production, and doesn't involve either Davies or Moffat, it's a crapshoot as to whether it'll be good or not (though if we want to get into the bias against those two writers that could actually be a plus for some people). But I'm willing to give it a chance.

Spoiler code for some reason is no longer working for me, so I have to discuss a bit of backstory spoiler for the K-9 series. Stop reading now if you don't want to know.

I was skeptical about this whole redesign of K-9 until I found out the first episode clears up any continuity issues in this area. Once I heard that, and once I heard Leeson was coming back, I had no problems. Hopefully the writers will be canny enough to not contradict some of the recent earth-shaking events (literally) in DW and TW, but I see they're now saying it takes place "in the near future" so that might solve that problem.

I'm with Tim o'Slime. I don't watch the SJA but I will check out the one with the Doctor. I won't be watching the K9 series either.

Now, if they'd actually picked up the one with SJ and K9 from the 80s... ;)

I watched the pilot for SJA last night, and I actually really liked it. It was far better than many of the "kids shows" I've watched before. I think that's what I'm loving about Doctor Who as a whole--it's meant to be for families, and yet it's so much more sophisticated, scary, complex, and just plain wonderful than many, many American "family" shows. I was expecting SJA, based on things I've read online, to be in line with a Nickelodeon or ABC Family show... but nope, I thought it was much better.

With that in mind, although I thought the trailer for K-9 looked a bit... strange, I will definitely give it a chance. 'Cause I'm willing to bet it'll surprise us all and be far better than just about all the shows Disney Channel offers (and I *watch* many of those shows!).

Be prepered for K-9 not to be any better than your standard Disney Channel stuff. It's not a CBBC production, and I believe it's airing on Disney Channels in Europe...

Well it didn't 'look' that bad. But then again I watched it with the sound off. :)

I do have to give them props for setting it in the future though. Between Who, SJA, and Torchwood, the numbers of alien threats in 2008/9 are getting a bit rediculous. Its like theres a ticket booth just outside the orbit of Pluto.

"Now serving #3671. Please have your engines on stand-by and all weapons armed."

I dunno, am I a bad person for wanting this to fail, so there'll be a better chance of getting more K9 on SJA?

I thought the production and physical sets looks cheap (yeah I know what I just said) the CGI was better than I thought.

more to the point you are not a bad guy for wanting it to fail, I want NCIS: LA to fail, to teach Sky a lesson, and despite the fact that K9 is in some of S3, this show failing could well mean more K9 for SJA & Doctor Who (where he belongs)

as for the show setting itself in the future, to avoid the alien invasions of Doctor Who & SJA, well that kinda suggests that this show is set in the normal Whoverse timeline, which IMO it is not.

I'm pretty sure they "borrowed" the music from the Star Trek trailer for this promotional video.

The music from the above trailer, which was also used in the Star Trek trailer, is War Begins from the Children of Dune soundtrack.

I swear, Bryan Tyler must be making a mint on that soundtrack. Half the trailers in the last five years have pulled something from it.

Oh my bad. I was under the impression it was officially supposed to be a futuristic upgraded version of our K9. If not, well then screw it.

That's kinda cool, I never realized that. I guess it's the "go to" trailer score for sci-fi action projects.
