a louisville ky. coach was acquited in the death of 1 of his player! what do you people think! was it right to being him to trail to start with! Or did they let him off too easy! :)

I think it was right to charge him, yes. And he got off too easy. He tortured his players, basically. Worked them to death in the heat. He saw some of them collapse and did NOTHING to help them. He punished them for 'goofing off' and a 'lack of hustle' by overworking them and withholding water from them. Bastard should have been found guilty.

At least he's not a coach anymore. I hope he never is one again.

No they shouldn't have. And he did NOT get off easy. However, he's probably going to be found civillaly liable

Sounds like that Sobel officer from Band of Brothers.

I was in the Canadian Army a looong time ago and you can push soldiers to their limits physically and mentally, but withholding water doesn't train you for anything!
Running a lot will of course get you better at running a lot, but I really don't think you can train yourself to go with less water.
By that logic you could hit the guys in the knees with baseball bats and train them to deal with busted knees.

^ Tonya Harding. And the only reason I remember it is because she lives around here and has constant encounters with the law.

Herbert Sobel is a FANTASTIC comparison, if you ask me. I think that coach should've been convicted. Failing that, I hope he gets a MAJOR civil verdict against him and that he is never allowed to coach anywhere again.

I would add to your comment that these are minors, too. That's in a whole other, even more despicable league than treating adults that way--an adult is more able to stand up for his or her own rights.

A coach should be automatically, and pretty much absolutely, responsible for the players under his care (while they're playing or practicing, anyway). Whatever happens to them, the coach should be held accountable.
