2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Halloween.

It's a tradition. In the middle of every November, when Americans are preparing for Thanksgiving, and people of many nations are starting their Christmas shopping, and everyone has forgotten about Halloween, Fox broadcasts its annual Simpsons Halloween special. Not this year, however. Turns out that the 2009 version of Treehouse of Horror will actually be broadcast on Oct 18th, BEFORE Halloween. Personally, I think this wild new idea is so crazy it just might work.

Nostradamus predicted this as a definite sign of the end-times!

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

I hope my local feed doesn't get screwed up again.

For some reason on DirecTV here in Eugene the local feeds are total crap. I'd switch to the alterntive ... if it wasn't ComCast.

Last week's episode the sound was cutting continually in and out, was totally unwatchable.

Not that I plan on watching it much but I was curious to check back in and see how the show as doing. I'm one of those people who is still a fan but feels the show isn't that great anymore.

Holy shit! That's all I have to say in this matter, holy shit.

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

I remember one time it actually aired on Halloween.

Same here. I am still a huge fan of the first decade of the show, but when I catch episodes from the more recent seasons I always end up thinking, "It's just not the same nowadays." I miss the days when the episode plots were meant to be stories, and not just excuses to string jokes together.

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

I'm looking forward to it. I heard there's a zombie story this year.

It'll probably be a let down...

This isn't exactly a minority opinion, nor has it been one for probably eight or nine years, now.

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

Even though I've found the last few "Treehouse of Horror" installments to be sub-par, I'm glad to hear this. Airing these episodes in November just made no sense to me. Actually, it might make more sense to air it the following week, but whatever, I'll still take this.

It's hard to believe that it's been a whole decade since a "Treehouse of Horror" actually aired on or before Halloween... here's hoping this is a good omen.

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

why they don't air a Halloween episode on HALLOWEEN is beyond me

It's Fox. Nothing they do makes sense.

I agree with Timby, though, the show was a whole lot better way back in its beginings when it was a show about a cartoon family. It morphed into something alot schlockier and dumber. I mean, seriously, how does Homer even manage to put his own pants on in the morning?

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

They usefully show the the first Sunday of November, which is fine by me, I htink it should be on Nov 1st this year, why not?

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

usefully?

WTF?!?

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

^Presumably that was supposed to say "usually."

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

One ToH had Maurice LaMarche as the voice of Orson Welles, and that was too much of a stretch for me.

That aside, the ToH has for me been one of the uniformly weakest aspects of the show for awhile now. Individual eps can still hit one out. ToH's tend to be beyond impossibly formulaic. Nothing too clever about everyone dies/gets eaten/corrupted/killed by one of the family's mistakes.

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

ToH kinda petered out after "Hom3r"

I'm always glad when LaMarche shows up on The Simpsons. I get so tired of hearing new characters that are just another Castellaneta or Shearer or Azaria or MacNeille voice; they've long since exhausted their repertoire, so it's all just reuses or variations of familiar voice types. So it's great when they bring in someone new aside from the celebrity guest stars. I was pleased that in last week's season premiere, there was a bit character played by Kevin Michael Richardson. I hope we hear more of him on this show.

Re: 2009 Simpsons Halloween episode will actually come BEFORE Hallowee

I remember watching II after coming back from trick or treating. I can't believe that was almost twenty years ago.

I think the show has lagged, but it's definitely still putting out good episodes. I still think a weak Simpsons episode is still better than most of the crap I see out of South Park and Family Guy (especially Family Guy).

I'll definitely agree though that there hasn't been a good ToH in ages. I'm happy the show is still alive and kicking, but I don't think I would have mourned too much if ToH had just died off eight or nine years ago.
