alexander siddig

Edinburgh

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Sorry if its already been posted....

Siddig was in a very popular British program called waking the dead.

He plays a drunk Dr Mohammed. (great acting)

Think you get in trouble for posting links so just look up waking the dead & Siddig.:bolian:

I just found a new "Favorite Thread"...this one. I love Alexander. He was in some season 6 episodes of the show 24. That was the only season of 24 I ever watched.

Man, he sure wasn't a great actor on DS9, though I think I remember that he improved. I've just started watching the show again, so I'll have to see what I think once I get into the later seasons. But gosh, it wasn't fun watching his acting in season 1, I can tell you that. I can accept that he might very well have improved after the show concluded, though.

I saw him in a piorot episode a few weeks back it took awhile to figure out who he was at first until it clicked

Yes, I thought he was the weakest actor in the main cast the early seasons, but he improved over the seasons... I still wouldn't call him a great actor based on DS9 (he got good playing Bashir, but was bad when he played another character in an episode, such as Mirror Bashir) but he has gotten better since.

And BTW, what's up with all the username changes, did you all agree to do it at the same time? :rommie:

Why would you get in trouble for posting links?

I suppose "links to what?" might be the question...but links in and of themselves are not disallowed.....

What links are we talking here? Because I'd love to see clips of this, myself....

I recently watched the first season of DS9 (for the first time since the show went off the air, I think), and I really noticed how weak he was in any episode that featured him - in "The Passenger," for example...
(when he had to play Bashir possessed by a bad guy)
...he was darn near cringe-worthy, I'm afraid. But I thought I'd remembered that he improves, so what you all have said gives me hope.

Why, yes, that's exactly what we did. No kidding. T'Bonz, who is T'Witchy for the duration, extended a limited time offer to everybody to adopt a special SCA-rrrry name (imagine "scary" said in a Bela Lugosi voice) for October in honor of Halloween. Too bad you missed it (although you could still ask - the deadline was Sept. 30, but T'Bonz was still making changes as of yesterday), but you can of course still adopt a special Halloween avatar, if you want to play. I mean, with a name like DevilEyes, you're already in pretty good shape, Halloween-name-wise. Here's the thread that explains it: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=104537

It's fortunate that I don't have to change the name, as you pointed out :rommie:

I'll just make a few changes to the avatar. :) Although maybe I don't even need to change it - I was told by rahullak that I look scary, and that was when I had the 'normal' (as much as Southparkified pics can be normal) avatar pic.

If there was one person who improved the most acting in DS9 it was probably Siddig. Look at an episode like The Passenger and then go to a later season Bashir episode and it was a stark contrast.

I always thought Siddig struck me as a bit creepy. But it was interesting how much he changed as Bashir through the series. He started out as kind of a college guy and a ladies man, and by the end he was really a very serious person due to everything he had to face during the dominion war. Would you say he grew up the most, or did he just become jaded....your thoughts?

I'll have to let you know after I watch a bit more of the series. I haven't seen most of the episodes since shortly after DS9 went off the air, and I've just started watching the series again from the beginning, and in S1 (I'm just starting S2), Bashir isn't a very compelling character. But for what it's worth, my recollection is that he really did grow up - and that Siddig grew up as an actor, too.

He did grow the most of the characters, and got a lot more mature... but I still would not exactly call him an emotionally mature person even by the end of the series. He was still a bit of a manchild, as seen in his actions in "Chrysalis", his Alamo games with O'Brien, and his teenage-like awkwardness with Ezri. But he seemed more self-aware, more lonely, jaded and having had too many disappointments, and the same things that made him annoying and silly in season 1 made you feel sorry for him in season 7.
