Well, at least this place is calmer than GB

No fucking wonder half of fandom took OG's demise as an excuse to piss off...

Time to make TrekBBS my actual homepage after all, which I wasn't going to when GB started, but... At least I can say "fuck" here...

Watch your frakking mouths, you motherfrakkers!

You know, that's the first time I used frak in that context.

I was a pretty frequent contributor to OG but I felt the reason for closing it down was utter feldercarb (and told the guy in charge more or less this) and made the decision not to bother moving over to GB. Sounds like I might have made the right decision.

I take it things aren't going well over there? (I don't believe TrekBBS allows posting of threads from other forums, or links to, so please don't do this, but I think discussion of general themes is OK).

DW newbie question:

What's OG and GB? Are they DW forums?

In the past, I've often joined a dedicated forum in the fandoms I become a part of, but I've found more and more, recently, that I prefer the generality of TrekBBS over the specificity of fandom forums. It harbors a wider range of tastes and POVs, and there tends to be a LOT less hostility concerning 'ships and favorite characters and what-not.

I've never once stepped foot into this DW sub-forum until I finally got into the series over the past few weeks, and I'm sad that my curiosity never got me to look in here sooner. Maybe I would have delved into the show at an earlier time, and not right before the end of Ten... As Tennant is "my" Doctor, it was bittersweet to catch up on the show knowing already that he was going to be gone soon.

*sigh*

Outpost Gallifrey, that closed. Gallifrey Base was created to supposedly take the place of that forum. And they can have it.

Exactly. Not only my point above, but my reasoning as well. "Fans" are scary, offensive, and generally pretty sad, overall. I like the people that enjoy chatting about a television show (i.e. TrekBBS)... :techman:

The mods/admin there are very anal about copyrighted stuff and they suck up to the BBC something chronic. IN Outpost Gallifrey I posted a youtube video of a TV commercial for a soap powder that featured Nicola Bryant.....and one of the Mods banned me for 24 hours!!!!

The same mods/admin are running Gallifrey Base....badly.

The YouTube thing was odd, and I never understood why they were so averse to linking to YouTube vids. I thought it was insane that in a thread in the music forum, a link to a band's official YouTube channel and videos could result in a ban. The only thing I could figure is that it was a blanket ban, to keep people from linking to Doctor Who materials on YouTube, on the theory that in so doing the site owners could stay in the Beeb's good graces.

I think Outpost Gallifrey (and now Gallifrey Base) want to be more important than they actually are. The world's gone and become decentralized, for good or ill.

There's one part of OG/GB's culture I wish would migrate here, and that's the use of pinned discussion posts and more frequent thread merges. I've found that keeps discussion on certain topics more focused. That's about it.

I haven't even visited GB. Mainly because of the snippets of information I've read here on this board. I don't know, that may change once the DT finale rolls around, or season 5 starts back up.We'll see. It'll depend on how hungry I am for fannish discussion.

Wha the fook?

(fake scottish accent)
Very bad, fake northern accent more likely.

Awae Tae Fuck or Get Tae Fuck would be more authentic.

Well I was going to tell you to lighten up Francis. But since you're a native, you're allowed. :D
