Who Will Direct Star Trek XII?

I want William Shatner to direct it.

I am not joking.

See, this is why the BBS can't have nice things.

Shatner was a great director, and I'll stand by that forever.

That said, I wouldn't mind Nick Meyer directing it either.

Shatner was ADEQUATE for the story he helmed. He captured the spirit of the classic troika(K-S-M). But aside from that he was sorta clunky and his blocking styles left much to be desired.

I think he definitely made a fairer fist of being cinematic than Nimoy. But then I love ST5, even if I'm the only person in the world who does.

I think TFF has tons of spirit and heart. It's just very clumsily executed and the effects by Bran Ferren are often laughable. That said, it's WAY better than NEMESIS in most respects.

Isn't Abrams saying he won't direct the movie but he'll still produce it?

I suspect the result would be like Cloverfield, which everyone assumes is an Abrams movie. We'll probably get a TV director he's worked with on Lost or another show and have him helm the movie while he steps aside to continue to be a big influence on the film.

So while speculation about random talent is nice (Neill Blomkamp! Duncan Jones!) we'll probably be getting another movie that is for all intents and purposes an Abrams movie that Abrams just isn't doing the directing part of.

CLOVERFIELD was expertly paced and directed even if Abrams himself didn't helm it. That kind of atmosphere in a TREK movie would be very cool.

EEK!!!! I love William Shatner but a great director he is not.

Verhoven would be a tragic choice IMO as well.

Abrams hasn't said he isn't directing - not at all - so I'm hoping he returns. Probably any other director I'd like to see Helm already has another project going.

Mel Gibson. It'll be three hours long, much of the dialog will be in Klingon with subtitles, and it'll be brutal and bloody. And James Horner will score it.

It would include a long pivotal scene in which Spock is publicly tortured by the Klingons.

Take away the shiny effects of the new movie, will you get the same amount of spirit and heart?

Yes you will. The movie had a great amount of spirit and heart.

Just the chemistry between Pine and Urban alone kept the movie alive with spirit.

That beats Kubrick with monkeys screaming for 15 minutes strait.

Let's bring controversy into this thread, how about Roman Polanski?

Roman Polanski's STAR TREK.

Fifteen minutes in...Sarek makes out with the Academy commandant's teen daughter.

<snip>.

I was once an extra in a film that had Verhoven doing the reshoots. The man took a 20 second scene and re-shot it over a dozen times. Kevin Spacey was in the movie, and he was standing in front of me as we all looked on. After like, the tenth take Spacey turns around and says to me, "I thought it looked perfect the first time".
Verhoven WOULD be tragic. We'd never get to see the film...
