Where Voyagers crew quarters Soundproof...

2 of 10

Just how good was the soundproofing when the crewquarters were constructed. May not have been all that good in the Ep "Someone to watch over Me" Seven makes some comment that when Paris and Belanna are "together" no one in their section cannot hear them,
Also, since thery were both senior officers their quarters would have been much better than the average rooms.

It wasn't just the Paris/Torres together time. Whomever had a common wall with Harry Kim apparently hated his Clarinet playing as seen in "The Thaw." Kim mentioned that it had something to do with the fluid conduits going through the walls. With Paris reminding him that the ship was combat performance, not musical performance.

lets not forget that Paris demotion wouldn't really have meant squat if he still kept his cushy Officers quarters. Being busted down to Ensign probably meant that he had to share a room with at least one other "person" which would mean dorm "shut up and pretend you're asleep" rules apply when B'Elanna stayed over for his room mate.

And I thought that the noise issue with this couple was that they insisted in not being so vanilla by leaving the *&^%ing to only their bedrooms?

So there might not have been walls between them and others some times god forbid soundproofed walls.

Voyager was undermanned - it seems you'd really have to be at the bottom of the rank ladder to have to bunk w/ someone (not by choice) - having quarters to oneself would be small comfort vs being stranded a zillion lightyears from your family - oh wait - sometimes that would be okay too . . .

The equinox 5 wouldn't have been allowed to sleep alone or together for a awhile at least in the beginning if the captain was sane, they would have had de facto keepers, room mates for a while just to make sure that they weren't about to reverse their fortunes.

The same, in the beginning, could be said for the Maquis?

Voyager wasn't undermanned. With the bump in crew from the Maquis, and then Neelix and Kes, and then all those bloody children, i think one of the vhs boxes to season one lists the intended crew compliment as 140ish, but they were topping 151 by season seven despite a decent body count which has me wondering if Janeway was cloning replacements as needed and then conditioning the crew to think that everything was normal like that time she pulled the wool over the doctors eves?

Some quarters would have had bunks even if they weren't used, and dignitaries suits would have been "acquired" by crew who thought they deserved it.

Sleeping with others is like showering with others - the right and energy conscious thing to do . . .

okay, we'll have to think of other naked, resource conserving activities for our fave Voyagers to participate in(unwillingly, I'm sure). Like the ubiquitous (in Starfleet circa 22nd Century) nude jumping jacks . . .

What about the Holodeck. The rate at which those people had love affairs with photons is frightening.

Um? Did you not watch DS9?

There was NO ambiguity at all that Quark ran a brothel.

There was little to no stigma in holofcuking by 2370.

Though from Picard and Rikers obvious surprise boners in 11001001 circa 2364, the idea had not come up before then because of how unrealistic holograms had been up to that point before the Bynars streamlined the realism in the entire process.

Amazing he could say no to that Wife and family in the Nexus, but Picard and his Number one as good as pulled their wangs out and begun thumping each other with them members vying for pole position to capture the holoheart of the delightful Minuet.

I was kind'a of surprised that 4 years later, Riker was still holding a torch for that gal.

Being busted down to Ensign probably meant that he had to share a room with at least one other "person" which would mean dorm "shut up and pretend you're asleep" rules apply when B'Elanna stayed over for his room mate.

But Paris did keep his same quarters. And being an Ensign didn't seem to be the main issue, Kim also had solo quarters. He had neighbors, not room mates.

Kim became a section head straight out of the academy, which gave him dainty airs that he really hadn't earned.

Maybe Voyagers crew manifest was dependent on the mission they were on? Sure they only needed a 150 crew to trek out after chuckles, but for another mission they might need triple that number? Maybe they built the rooms smaller in the mirror universe but Mirror Yar from yesterdays Enterprise said that her Enterprise, which seemed to maintain the same outward dimensions, was capable of transporting 6000 troops, although, I think that that number might not be including the Enterprises standing crewmen, but in any case, ships built in peacetime tend to lend more room towards luxury and foot space.

Why do I just assume that the Delanney twins shared a room?

Wasn't the ship complement of Kirk's Enterprise like 400? Of course no families - and TOS did make allusions to things like "deck 27" and crazy things as if it were as large as DS9. I confess that's why I always assumed Voyager was understaffed - had TOS in mind. Diff class of ship.

Dax, on Kirks Enterprise said during trials and triblelations "They really packed them in on these old ships."

but then the defiant was basically a couple guns with an engine, and it still needed a crew of over 50...

But then long range missions, 5 year missions even, would require some redundancy with crew because the unforeseeable was unavoidable.

Considering the alien energy clouds sucking blood and impregnating the ladies willy nilly, one would think that there would be less than no soundproofing in the walls for a little peace of mind that if you can hear your nieghbour not being eaten or raped that you can sleep peacefully at night.
